As your Freeview Ready TV is not HD compatible hence no DVB-T2 tuner necessory to receive the BBCB (HD) multiplex from either the Tay Bridge relay or Angus main transmitter on your HD Ready TV,the answer is yes you do need a separate set-top box preferably a Freeview HD (normally a single tuner) or Freeview +HD (with twin/double tuners) to receive HD broadcasts from any BBCB (HD) multiplex from any relay mast/main transmitter as such.
But bear in mind your HD Ready TV which will normally be up to 720p even with a Freeview HD or Freeview +HD box will not display Full HD 1080p pictures on your TV screen, but will display over twice more clarity than the present 350p SD pictures especially on the BBCB (HD) multiplex if you purchase the right equipment which i suggested above, namely Freeview HD or Freeview +HD set-top box alongside your current HD Ready TV.

Sandy Heath (Central Bedfordshire, England) Full Freeview transWednesday 4 July 2012 5:39PM
Halifax
Steve Nelson.Bishop Stortford,CM22 6AY.
From what you stated it appears you lost both the BBCA and D3+4 multiplexes from Sandy Heath on frequencies 27 and 24 respectively. One possibility here would be to reset your affected appliance as such by first unplugging from the electric socket for over one minute then replug back in,now unplug the aerial or an aerial connector lead (if this applies) from your affected mini freeview box and perform an automatic scan from start to finish, the result it will find zero channels but clears the previous memory of the affected mini-freeview box as such. Now once this stage has been completed replug the aerial or aerial connector lead (if this applies) back into the affected box as such, and this time perform if your affected box allows it a manual scan of the Sandy Heath multiplexes.BBCA on frequency 27,D3+4 on frequency 24,BBCB (HD) on frequency 21 if your affected box is a Freeview HD or Freeview +HD type,SDN on frequency 51,ArqA on frequency 52,ArqB on frequency 48.Hopefully this should work.
But if your affected box does not perform manual scanning then instead perform automatic scan instead,it should also work.
However if all the above fails, one scenario is to bypass the affected set-top box from the analogue TV you indicated earlier and onto one of the two built in freeview TV's you have elsewhere preferably one with a direct aerial feed, then rescan preferably manual scanning if this allows,if not then just automatic scan instead and monitor the situation. After this return the affected box back to the analogue TV then assess the situation,it should now hopefully work.

Mike Summers.Seaford,BN25 3BH.Is this the 400w (0.4kw) Newhaven freeview lite relay or the 4,000w (4kw) Whitehawk Hill major relay your aunt is receiving the signals from. One indicator are the aerial coloured tips if yellow denoting a group B vertical polarised signal from Newhaven relay which only broadcasts PSB multiplexes only (no COM mux's),or green denoting a group C/D vertical polarised signal from Whitehawk Hill major relay.
If your TV allows it manual scan either the BBCA multiplex on frequency 50 if tuned to Newhaven,or if tuned to Whitehawk Hill then this is located on frequency 60.
If your aunt is utilising signal booster/amplifier then bypass this as this will overload the signal hence the absence of the BBCA multiplex as such.
Any confirmation whether your aunt uses either Newhaven lite relay or Whitehawk Hill major relay would be most helpful,an indicator i already addressed previously prior is the coloured tips of your aunt's antenna.

Nick,Aldeburgh.Oddly enough i did mention in my text on Wednesday 27 June 2012,1.40pm then on my hols in St Annes on Sea,Lancashire in my first paragraph that the Sudbury page requires updating due to the COM multiplexes increasing in strength to 100kw apiece, albeit i forgot to mention the change in frequencies back then.
Im sure Briantist the owner of this ever valuable and useful website will ultimately update this page in due course once he catches up with the Sudbury pages, after all he is a very busy man assisting us all.

I suspect the cause of your predicament could be The Inversion Effect which i would look up under the link underlined as such !

I have just noticed an anomaly to the above regarding Tacolneston come 2013 onwards.BBCB (HD) multiplex currently on frequency 62 will have to relocate due to the 800mhz clearance to frequency 50.Yet at present on frequency 50 is the ArqB multiplex which has to relocate elsewhere to accomodate the ultimately reallocated BBCB (HD) mux from fr 62 to fr 50.But looking at the above 2013 and 2015? possibilities no ArqB which i suspect will move to frequency 39 but is not stated as such for 2013 and 2015?
