Ted: The Aldershot/Woking minimux is broadcast of VHF Block 8A, which is outside the frequency range that some radios search by default, so try holding down the scan button (if your radio has one) or look for a menu option for Full Scan or Rest of World Scan which should scan the entire frequency range used for DAB (the UK originally only used VHF blocks 11B-12D for DAB so some older radios only scan those frequencies by default rather than the entire range and therefore won't automatically find services broadcast on lower frequencies).

BBC Alba

W McKee: BBC Alba is only broadcast on Freeview from transmitters in Scotland. You certainly won't receive it on Freeview in London (the only ways to watch outside of Scotland is via Sky/Freesat or online via BBC iPlayer).

Liz Graham: If you're within the coverage area, run a scan on your radio (should be explained in the manual) and Downtown Country should appear in the list of stations.

Angela Hulme: Chris Country is available in Manchester, however you will need a radio that supports the DAB+ standard.

Sean O'Suilleabhain: The BBC aren't going to remove their HD multiplex to replace it with Irish channels. I'm not sure what you mean by Brougher Mountain being a precedent as the NIMM mux is broadcast alongside the six main multiplexes, it hasn't replaced one of them.

Tom McEwan: Retuning will never fix a problem such as this, as your TV was already correctly tuned. By retuning you have probably deleted some of your channels, leaving you with no way of knowing when the problem has been fixed, other than periodically retuning until the channels return (unless you have another TV that hasn't been retuned).

Full technical details of Freeview

George: By retuning you have deleted all of the channels which were correctly tuned, making the problem far worse as retuning will never fix a sudden loss of signal. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections? The problem is almost certainly something within your aerial system as you are most likely receiving the Crystal Palace transmitter which covers most of London and there would be hundreds of people complaining if it wasn't working.

All free TV channels in the UK
Friday 1 September 2017 3:42PM

VJS: Because UKTV cross advertise their channels. Many of the people watching Dave, Yesterday, Home, Drama or Really will be watching on Sky or Virgin and have W, Gold, Alibi and Good Food available to them. Sky do the same thing on their free channels (Pick, Challenge & Sky News) to encourage viewers to subscribe to their pay channels.

MALCOLM: The Chesterfield transmitter already broadcasts HD channels and has done (along with all other Freeview transmitters) since digital switchover completed back in 2012. You need a TV or set top box with the Freeview HD logo (if you TV says HD Ready that only refers to the screen being able to display a HD source and does not indicate that you have the required DVB-T2 tuner). With the correct equipment you will receive BBC1 HD, BBC2 HD, ITV HD, Channel 4 HD, Channel 5 HD & CBBC HD from the Chesterfield transmitter. Chesterfield does not broadcast the additional HD channels (such as BBC 4 HD, BBC News HD, BT Sport Showcase HD etc) however these are available from Emley Moor (if you provide a full postcode we can see the predicted coverage for your location and whether the additional HD channels from Emley Moor should be receivable. Also, there is no need to write your entire post in capitals which is generally considered to be shouting and is totally unnecessary.
