Freeview reception has changed?
Sunday 20 April 2025 11:38AM

Keith Pugh: There are no channels numbered above 735 on Freeview. The 800 range is used by the receiver as a place to put duplicate channels when you are receiving more than one transmitter.

I.Hart-Walsh : The transmitter engineering notice at the top of this page warns of Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels this week. Unfortunately no details are given of what sort of work is taking place or how long it is expected to take.

Full technical details of Freeview

Terry Seal: You're predicted to receive a good signal from Sandy Heath, Waltham and Belmont, all of which coincidentally are listed for engineering works this week. SD satellite channels were switched off due to the low number of viewers still using SD receivers (most had already upgraded to HD years ago) so there is relatively little electronic waste and a lot of cost savings for the broadcasters by ending duplication of channels in HD and SD, as well as transponders carrying SD-only channels being able to switch to the more efficient DVB-S2 modulation already used for most HD channels.

ralph: As you haven't told us the make and model (or even what type) of box it's going to be very difficult for anybody to offer much assistance. Have you taken the basic steps of power both the box and router off at the mains, then switching both back on and trying the password again? Are you certain that you're entering the correct password, could it have previously been changed in the router settings?

Chris.SE: I think it might be down to Briantist mass deleting older spam posts, some pages on this site had pages and pages of spam comments, easily enough to reduce the page count once after they were deleted.

There seem to be a lot of old posts appearing at the top of the Your Comments page again. Some don't even have the page title listed (or link) leaving me to guess which page has been commented on.

P Cooper: Perhaps you could explain how you are certain that the transmitter is at fault? Do you have reports of other people experiencing the same problem at the same time as you?

Have you considered that you could be being impacted by interference from another source, such as a 4G/5G base station? Beacon Hill transmits on frequencies which are close to the 700MHz band now used by the mobile networks for 4G/5G so it may be worth checking with https://restoretv.uk and requesting a free 700MHz filter if they predict that you may be affected.

There is also the possibility that you are picking up electrical interference from something nearby (common causes are appliances/power tools with electric motors or LED lights with poorly screened circuit boards). Interference from a distant transmitter broadcasting on the same frequency may also be a possibility.

Please remember that this is an unofficial technical help website and nobody here works for the transmitter company, nor do we have any way of investigating or rectifying any transmitter fault that may exist.
