Clive Blakesley : The BBC haven't moved it without telling anyone, it's been widely publicised that on Freeview it's moved to the COM8 multiplex, which for most people who could already receive it on COM7 just means carrying out a retune. If this doesn't restore BBC Four HD on channel 106 for you, please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using which will enable us to offer further advice.

R Murchie: Frequency allocation and power levels are co-ordinated by Ofcom. However it is down to the owner of each multiplex which services are carried on their capacity; i.e. commercial broadcasters enter into contracts with either SDN (COM4) or Arqiva (COM5/6/7/8) to lease capacity on one of these multiplexes for each of their channels. The BBC have leased space on COM7 since it launched in 2014 in order to make BBC Four HD, CBeebies HD and BBC News HD available on Freeview. Now that COM7 and COM8 are about to become single frequency networks (i.e. the same frequencies will be used on each transmitter that carries these muxes) the guard interval on COM7 & COM8 is being changed which will reduce the available capacity on each of these muxes. As this will result in COM7 no longer having enough capacity for all of its current channels, the BBC have agreed to move BBC Four HD and CBeebies HD to COM8 where there is spare capacity available. COM8 is broadcast at a lower power level than COM7 on some transmitters, on others both are broadcast at the same power level and there are a couple of transmitters where COM8 is broadcast at a higher power level than COM7.

petronella griffith: The transmitter will usually be back on by early evening, however a completion time isn't generally announced as the time needed to complete the work can vary depending on weather conditions and any unforeseen complications once the work has started. Do not attempt to retune.

Mark: According to Digital UK, COM6/7/8 are changing frequencies on 7th March, followed by the local multiplexes moving to new frequencies late next year and then PSB1/2/3 and COM4/5/8 moving in two stages during the first half of 2020 (COM8 changes twice).

comps: A log periodic type aerial such as a Log36 (see link below) would be more suitable for reception of Crystal Palace. It would be much more compact than the one you've linked to and would likely give better reception of frequencies at the lower end of the UHF band such as those used by Crystal Palace (a 4G filter is very unlikely to be necessary for the same reason).

KATHARINE BISSET: The Vault is only available on Freeview from 9pm until 6am as it shares capacity with one on the childrens channels which broadcasts from 6am until 9pm on the same capacity.

J Whitney: It is necessary to move COM7 and COM8 to single frequency networks on UKF channels 55 and 56 because channels 31-37 are needed to relocate other multiplexes which are being cleared from the 700MHz band. There is no option for Ofcom/Arqiva to leave them unchanged on any transmitter as this would cause massive interference to relocated PSB and COM muxes on other transmitters.

Chris: Retuning was a bad idea as you've just deleted the channel when it was already correctly tuned. What does the signal quality level show?
