Maureen franklin: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see where you are in realation to the transmitter and your predicted coverage etc. Do not attempt to retune as this will never fix a problem with signal breakup.

Charles: Does your TV have a manual tuning function? If it does, try manual tuning on UHF channel 33.

Jeddy S: BBC Four HD is on the COM8 multiplex which moved to UHF channel 56 on 21st March, which is well outside of the frequency range that a Group A aerial is designed to receive. If you don't have satellite or cable, follow the link MikeP has posted and contact the Freeview Advice Line.

andrea mcgrahan : You won't receive any analogue channels as they were all closed down in favour of digital TV a few years ago. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see which transmitter you're using, where you are in relation to it and your predicted coverage etc.

R Murchie: COM8 is not running at reduced power at Rowridge, according to Digital UK it is running at the same power level as before the frequency change. The reallocation of the 700MHz frequency band for mobile broadband use was agreed by broadcasters and telecoms companies across the whole of Europe (through the European Broadcasting Union) and is not a decision taken solely by Ofcom as you seem to be suggesting.

Charles: Is the other TV connected to the same aerial? The PSB multiplexes are often broadcast at higher power because they need to provide coverage to as many viewers as possible (including some relay stations which can be very far away from their parent transmitter) so a higher power level is required in order to provide a sufficient signal strength for reception on the fringes of the transmitter's coverage area. The commercial broadcasters are happy to reach the vast majority of viewers at a lower power level and would not find it worthwhile to broadcast at a higher power level when they would only gain a relatively low number of additional viewers.

Philip Collins: If you're receiving Crystal Palace, the most likely explanation is that you have a Group A aerial which is not designed to receive the higher frequencies that COM7 & COM8 are now using. If you don't have satellite or cable you may be eligible to have a free replacement wideband aerial fitted, which can be arranged by contacting the Freeview Advice Line (see link below).
