K Kenrick: The recorder will work independently to the built-in Freeview on the TV.

Remember the days of video recorders? Your video would have its own tuner and so too would the TV. The video worked independently of the TV and didn't replace it. The same principle applies here.

If I need a new aerial, who can install it? | Installing

Richard: You can get mains leads with right-angled connectors on the end. You can also get right-angled aerial connectors. Would this have sufficient clearance?

Dale: I think that any statement that amplifiers "don't help" are made in respect of the way that they are often (mis)used.

That is not to say that there aren't proper uses where they are of benefit.

Jennymaria: The commercial multiplexes (groups of channels) are on low power from the transmitter and will remain so until 2012. From what you describe, it is these which you are now not getting.

Perhaps there has been a change in atmospherics which means that the signal is now not as strong where you are.

I would try manually tuning them. They are on UHF channels 48, 52 and 56.

Michael J Gunnill: After switchover you will still get these channels. However, you will have to retune as they will be moving frequency they are broadcast on.

Stuart Grainge: Without knowing your location (post code) I can only say that Belmont is presently operating on low power for some of the multiplexes (groups of channels). This is due to be increased this Wednesday.

Any report of "no problems" is as it says. It was planned that this low power would be the case, so as to not cause interference with another area that has yet to switch over.

Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter
Sunday 20 November 2011 6:03PM

Gem: I think your devices might be picking up the signal from Belmont transmitter as well. This serves Lincolnshire and East Yorkshire, although there is significant overlap in South and West Yorkshire. See this page:

Digital Region Overlap | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

I found the manual for your model here:
xhttp://download.p4c.philips.com/files/h/hdt8520_05/hdt8520_05_dfu_eng.pdf

Page 12 talks about "Network selection". Do you get this during setup and if so, does it consist of two entries: "East Yorks & Lincolnshire" and "Yorkshire" ? If so, then you need to select "Yorkshire" which is Emley Moor (E Yorks/Lincs is Belmont).
