ian blackadder: I think you might. Can you not see the Moville transmitter mast across the water on a clear day?
Limavady is at 238 degrees and Moville is at 283 degrees. This means that there is a difference of 45 degrees. I'm not sure whether you will be able to point an aerial somewhere inbetween the two.
The Digital UK predictor suggests that you will have excellent reception from Limavady and I assume the same to be true of Moville if you can see it. Therefore a grid aerial will be suitable if your current aerial doesn't work. Grid aerials have less gain, but greater angle of acceptance.
The channels/frequencies used by Limavady and Moville won't allow two aerials to combined using a diplexer, which is the best way.
Moville is broadcasting on UHF channel 45, so if your TV has a manual tuning function then see if you can pick it up.
Failing that, if you can receive from Divis instead of Limavady, then you could combine an aerial on it and one on Moville. The aerial on Limavady should be suitable for use with Moville.

ian blackadder: One other thing. Saorview, as broadcast by Moville, may not be compatible with your Freeview receiver. Freeview HD receivers will definately work, but not all standard definition ones have the ability to show the picture format used by Saorview.

Rita Mc laughlin: No. It's only available on free-to-air satellite (Freesat or Freesat from Sky). Not sure about whether cable networks carry it.

m collins: What you refer to as your "RT aerial" must be pointing to Clermont Carn in the Republic. The system is "Saorview" and some standard definition Freeview receivers won't be able to show a picture (not sure what sort of proportion can and what proportion can't). Evidently yours is one which does not show the Saorview format.
The HD receiver would be expected to be able to. Now I know that you are receiving RT from Clermont Carn, I can tell you that you need to access the manual tune function on your Freeview HD box and tune to UHF/RF channel number 52. If there is a setting for mode (somewhere on the manual tune screen), it should be set to DVB-T rather than DVB-T2.
Check with the DVD recorder what UHF channel it is tuned to for RT. I suspect it will be C52. Do this by going to it and bringing up the signal strength screen. Hopefully it will still show even though it is unable to resolve a picture.

Patrick: It depends where you are as to whether you can receive them or not. You may need a second aerial.
A Freeview HD has all the requirements to receive RT whether this comes from a transmitter in the Republic or one of the Freeview transmitters that carry these services.
If you are in the Derry area then Holywell Hill is probably the most likely transmitter to use. This will require a separate aerial to that which points to Sheriff Mountain and carries UK Freeview channels. It will be possible to combine the two aerials into one cable/feed so that you can watch both without having to swap aerial leads or use a different box.
Look around to see what your neighbours have. Aerials pointing to Sheriff Mountain will be vertical (elements up/down) and aerials on Holywell Hill will be horizontal (elements flat).

Eddie: You must be receiving RT from one of the Saorview transmitters in the Republic.
Saorview pictures use the MPEG4 format whereas Freeview standard definition ones use the earlier MPEG2. As a result, many Freeview standard definition receivers don't have the capability to resolve MPEG4 pictures.
Freeview HD receivers will work or of course a Saorview box will work.

Linda: What I am trying to get at is does the Samsung Video/DVD Combo Recorder have Freeview built into it? A model number would allow this to be checked upon. If it doesn't then you won't be able to tune in any channels because it will be scanning for analogue channels and there aren't any any more.

Mark: You will need a second aerial for Clermont Carn as it is vertically polarised and Divis/Black Mountain NIMM are horizontally polarised.

Derek: Do the missing channels appear further up? In the 800s maybe?
Ensure that the country setting is set correctly to UK or GB as that sometimes causes channels not to be put in the right positions.
