Brian D: Is this interference on one television only?
I am wondering if you have Freeview and satellite connected to it by SCART and that it is that which is causing the problem. Perhaps the SCART plug is not in correctly at one end.

Can the inversion effect occur during daylight hours? Or does it occur exclusively during darkness or is it generally during darkness, but sometimes in the daytime.
I had this sort of thing down as only happening in summer when it's hot.

Mike Dimmick: Could Monty's issue be caused by the lift conditions over the last few days?

Alistair: I am not a representative of Arqiva, the company responsible for Winter Hill Transmitting Station.
However, I can suggest that if you can see the mast that the problem is likely to be too higher signal level being fed into your receiver. Read this page for more information and how to rectify it:

chris: The commercial muxes from Preseli are at 10kW power, whereas the PSB ones (BBC/ITV/C4/C5/HD) are at 20kW.
So there will be some viewers who are further away that won't be able to pick up the COMs but will get the PSBs.
If you supply your post code, we can look up your chances of getting the COMs on the Digital UK predictor.

Mark Fletcher: How can wideband antennas be more susceptible to interference from distant transmitters during inversion?
Won't any interference that one suffers from a distant transmitter only have ever been broadcast by that transmitter on the same UHF channel it is interfering with?
Or can the inversion effect mean that transmissions can be victim of signals that were broadcast on different channels?

Brian Hirst: Am I right in assuming that these strengths and qualities you've given are out of 10?

How do other TVs/boxes connected to the same aerial fare? (DN31NJ)

Alexa: The first stage of switchover which took place on 9th November introduced only BBC channels. The others will started from 23rd.
Until then, you will have to watch ITV and C4 on analogue (the old TV system).

Angela: One possibility is that your TV decided to tune to the signals from the wrong transmitter. See this page for more info:

The simplest and most generic guidance I can give you to make sure it is tuned correctly is to re-scan with the aerial unplugged and then plug it when it gets to 25%. The objective here is to have the aerial unplugged when it's scanning the frequencies used by the transmitter you don't want. (DN31NJ)

Chuck_Noris: It is likely that you will be unable to receive some channels from Sandy Heath due to them being on low power.
On 23rd November COM5/ArqA which carries Pick TV, Dave, E4+1, Challenge and others will move to its final UHF channel (frequency) and its final power. If you can't pick it up then, then you will not be able receive it.
COM4/SDN which carries ITV3, QVC, 5* and others will move onto its final UHF channel and power in 2012.
COM6/ArqB which carries Yesterday, Film4, 4Music went on to full power and final UHF channel on 14 September this year.
