Well, the 7 EPG guide and programme info is invaluable Mark, something you didn't have on the old analogue system.

Coupled with the fact that 20 odd channels, even in Freeview light areas, many more if you're in range of a full Freeview transmitter along with true 16:9 picture format and I'd hate to go back to 4/5 channel analogue TV.

Certainly in this area DTV pictures are a vast improvement on the old analogue system, even those in standard definition.

Indeed Nicholas, I completely agree, I still can't quite figure out why both the Londonderry and Cambret Hill transmitters are Freeview Light as both are relatively high powered. An ERP of 2.0 and 2.8 kw isn't a small relay serving a remote village in the middle of nowhere.. Add to the fact that Derry is Northern Ireland's second city and it's a complete mystery as to why this is Freeview Light.

I sometimes get the impression broadcasters are more interested in South East England than anywhere else.

Yep, that's always the problem Michael. Finding a car with a DAB radio.

I think the prediction of the demise of analogue radio is somewhat premature for that very reason.

Are there any DRM+ radios available ?

Otherwise, forget it. This'll go the same way a DRM whose tests went on for 10 years or more.

At least with DAB, and now DAB+ there are cheap affordable radios on the high street. Pure have DAB+ radios for less than £50 now, so DAB+ could be introduced on a phased basis. .

As I have repeatedly said, why manufacturers in the UK are still selling DAB only radios is beyond me. Ofcom really should be publicizing the fact that you need a DAB+ compatible receiver.

This really is the key to new technology i.e. having affordable receivers available on the high street. There's no point in spending huge amounts of money developing new radio technology if no one can listen to it.

DAB+ really does need to come to the UK sooner rather than later..

DRM really should have replaced A.M on medium wave, but where are the cheap affordable DRM radios ? This is why the technology failed.

Sadly, only 3 in Northern Ireland.

Surprised Kilkeel and Rostrevor Forest aren't on that list as South Down really is a black spot for DAB.

"a television"

?????????

All Freeview televisions receive Digital Radio. So unless your TV is very old ? Even then all you need to do is add a £20 Freeview STB, though you should already have done this by now.

Yep, Mux 2 now officially on air from yesterday.

Nothing really on it, apart from RTE 1 in HD which is really only upscaled at the moment.

RTE 1 HD due to start officially around Christmas or the new year.

Speculation TG4 HD and TV3 HD may be starting soon as well.
