Movie Mix
Friday 7 November 2014 10:21PM

I don't know if this will be of any help to you Helen, but the movie "A Perfect Day" is currently being broadcast in heavy rotation (8 screenings listed) on Movie Mix's partner / parent channel's on Sky.

It will be broadcast on Sony Entertainment Television (Sky Channel 157) on
Monday 10th November 2014 at 2pm and again on Saturday 15th November 2014 at 2pm. (It will also be shown on the +1 version of the channel 1 hour later)

It will be shown on Sony Movie Channel (Sky Channel 323) on
Sunday 16th November 2014 at 2:40pm and again on Tuesday 18th November 2014 at 1pm. (Again also shown on the +1 version of the channel 1 hour later)

I don't think Movie Mix are allowed to show the films when Sony are broadcasting them as Movie Mix is in effect used by Sony to broadcast their programmes on Freeview without Sony having to obtain a Freeview channel.

I'm afraid that "A Perfect Day" is a TV Movie and so has never been released at the cinema and so has probably never been released onto DVD. If you have not got Sky then I'm afraid you may have to wait until Movie Mix screen it again. It is not currently shown on their schedules for the next couple of weeks.

Movie Mix

In reply to Barrie Durrent = No, Movie Mix do not watch the films that they show on the channel before they broadcast them.

They have a complex deal with Sony that allows them to show some of Sony's better quality cinema released films starring actors you have actually heard of but get those films very cheaply in return for bulk buying huge numbers of Sony TV's made-for-TV movies that can be a bit variable in quality to say the least.

The channels Movie Mix, Movies 4 Men, More > movies and the True channels are not really television channels in the same way as say Channel 4 is.

MikeB: Yes, I would agree with you Mike. Movies4Men do seem to show an awful lot of pretty old foreign language films from Italy and Spain in particular that have shocking picture quality and terrible English dubbing.

I presume that they are picking a lot of this stuff up for free because copyright has lapsed.

MikeB: "I didn't know about Movie Mix's tieup with Sony, but it makes a lot of sense. It also means some decent movies!"

Sony own and operate two Sony branded channels in the UK - Sony Entertainment Television (SET) and Sony Movie Channel (SMC) - both broadcast on Sky.

Sony own / operate 2 non Sony branded channels - Movies4Men (M4M) - broadcast on Sky and Freeview. More > Movies (More Than Movies) which broadcasts on Sky.

Movie Mix is not owned / operated by Sony, but Sony use Movie Mix to broadcast on Freeview. If you compare the schedule for Movie Mix and More > Movies they are identical right up until the primetime slot at around 9pm.

If Sony wanted to put SET or SMC on Freeview they would be buried down the bottom of the EPG behind CBS Action and the Tru Tv channels.

M4M has a specific content of Westerns, War Films etc. some of which are also shown on Movie Mix i.e. Django.

London

Earlier on in this thread Briantist posted (in good faith I might add) that Movie Mix is owned by Square 1 Management. Square 1 are a telephone services company that specialise in providing premium rate telephone lines and are the licence holder for a number of the Babestation type channels. I am not sure if the information that they own Movie Mix is still correct.

OFCOM transferred the DTPS (Digital Television Programme Service) licence for the Movie Mix channel from Square 1 to a new company called Media Mix (UK) Limited in November 2013.

THOSE PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE LACK OF SUBTITLES ON MOVIE MIX PLEASE TAKE NOTE!

The registered office of Media Mix (UK) Limited is given as 25, Golden Square, London, W1F 9LU.

Interestingly, 25, Golden Square is the address of Sony Pictures Europe House.

Current Directors of Media Mix (UK) Limited are listed as Miss Karen Elizabeth Marsh, a TV Executive. MR. Alan George Castle, an accountant and finally an American MR. Lyle Bainbridge Stewart Jr. Vice-President Programming and Research. (This is public domain information by the way).

Kate Marsh is Sony Pictures Television's senior Vice-President, networks, Western Europe. I presume that is the same person.

All three directors are also listed as directors of CSC Media Group Ltd. a subsidiary of Sony, which used to be called Chart Show Channels, and operates a lot of TV channels such as True Entertainment and music channels such as Scuzz.

True Entertainment
Wednesday 12 November 2014 9:59PM

Brian Davis: First of all Brian it is important to point out that this website is NOT the website of the TV Channel True Entertainment. The True Entertainment channel is owned by CSC Media Group Limited which is a subsidiary of Sony.

The website for all of the True channels is at True movies

Sadly, True Entertainment like a lot of smaller channels are not required by the broadcasting regulator OFCOM to provide subtitles. Most of the content shown on True Entertainment are old TV movies / TV Series from the U.S.A. many of which may never have had subtitles in the first place. It would cost the TV Channels a lot of money to add their own subtitles.

It would require a change in the law for them to be forced to provide subtitles - have you thought of contacting your MP about the lack of subtitles on many TV channels?

Another avenue you might be interested in pursuing is contacting the BBC2 programme "See Hear" which campaigns on issues effecting deaf and partially deaf people in the UK. They may be able to take up the problem direct with the broadcaster on your behalf.

Steve M: I think that the film you caught the end of on Sunday, 9th November was the 1995 TV Movie "The Unspoken Truth". Based on the true story of Brianne Hawkins. Starring Lea Thompson as the wife, Twin Peaks star James Marshall as Clay, the abusive husband and Robert Englund (of Freddy Kruger fame). Apparently, the film is available on DVD in the UK.

Stoke-on-trent

Film4+1 has jumped from Channel 45 to Channel 790 on Freeview.

An on screen message states that Film4+1 will be available to Freeview HD viewers from 20th November 2014 when a retune will be necessary. However, it will still be broadcast in Standard Definition. It will be located on Channel 45 on the EPG.

Freeview SD viewers will lose the channel after that date.

Stoke-on-trent

VIVA will cease to be broadcast on Freeview 'early' next year. It will be replaced by male-orientated US channel Spike on Freeview. VIVA will still be available to UK satellite and cable viewers.

Some of the shows currently broadcast on VIVA are going to migrate to C5, 5USA and 5*. Viacom have stated that the Spike UK schedule will contain repeats of C5 factual programming, Spike's US content and library content from other Viacom channels such as MTV and Comedy Central.

Viacom own all of the channels mentioned above.
