Hi,
I live in Yeovil and I am trying to understand if what I am reading on your pages is right, should we be able to see BBC4hd in BA22 8SA?

Bill McDonald: According to info, yes! on Mux C33 (570.0 Mhz) from the Mendip transmitter, the programme listed as being operational from 1900 - 0530 hours on LCN / EPG number 106.

Further to what jb38 correctly states, to receive it you need a receiver that has an HD tuner (known as DVB-T2 tuners) and you may need a different aerial as Mux 33 is not received well by a Group C/D aerial that was the norm for Mendip. If your aerial has been in use for some years it is likely to be the Group C/D type. If you having it replaced, make sure you get a log-periodic type fitted and not a 'wide band' sort as they are poor at the lower channel numbers.

Many thanks to JB38 and MikeP for their information on the BBC4HD problem, I have all the gear to receive HD television, and get all the other HD channels without problems, but I am not going to go through yet another aerial change just to receive BBC4HD, knowing my luck I will do this and they will move the blasted channel to somewhere my present wideband unit will be quite happy with, God I hate digital, bring back real VHF and UHF TV, I know the picture and sound quality was rubbish, but at least the programmes were worth watching. RANT OVER. Thanks again.

Bill McDonald: Thanks for the update on the situation, however, if you are receiving the other HD channels perfectly OK then in order to find out if any signal is being received from the COM7 transmitter go into your TV's (or boxes) tuning menu / manual tune followed by entering C33 into the box but NOT followed by pressing search or scan, because if anything is being received on C33 the strength and quality of will appear in the signal bars.
Further advice dependant on the outcome of the test, as the viewing of COM7 "might" still be possible even although the aerial is out of band.

Bill McDonald: Your current aerial is a wideband one? Can't be that wideband if it won't pick up UHF channel 33!

Bill McDonald: Although I did say in my previous reply that further advice was dependant on the outcome of the signal test, however, purely for information purposes, my reason for suggesting the Mux33 signal test is basically because that "if" you are already enjoy "stable" reception of HD channels (e.g: 101/2/3 etc) on Mux C58 (BBC B), then irrespective of what type (group) of aerial you are using the problem of zero reception from Mux 33 might simply be caused by your "overall" signal level being a tad on the low side.
Of course "if" your aerial is of other than a wideband type this would exacerbate the situation as far as Mux 33 is concerned, a high band aerial being used to receive a low band channel being much less efficient than if the reverse situation applied, i.e: a low band aerial being used to receive a high band channel.
The COM7 HD transmitter on C33 has an ERP (power) level of 72.35Kw compared to BBC-B's 100Kw HD Mux on C58, and so the differential is not by any means massive compared to that experienced on some other stations.
By the way, if you do get an indication of a signal on C33, let it sit on that channel for about a minute or so for the purpose of checking if the quality indication remains reasonably stable or not, such as frequently observed to dive downwards, because if it doesn't, then a simple (but excellent) variable gain booster of the type sold by Argos, item number 107 / 1533 @ £11.99 could well solve the problem.

Hi there,
I live in Twickenham and since retuning my Samsung F8000 TV Freeview channels today I have lost my HD channels. I have manged to retrieve some by using the manual tuning mode on C30 but C33 has a 0% signal strength for the balance of HD channels. Is that normal for this area?

Yesterday the TV screen said a retune was required. I have now lost all HD channels from Mendip transmitter on C33 and a manual tune says there is 0% signal on C33. Before the retune I had all C33 hD channels at 100% signal strength. Does anybody know what's going on?
