Well, problem solved. Rusty pole had allowed the aerial to move a little in the wind - just enough to lose the lower power signals. Aerial man fitted new pole and refastened the two aerials and everything back to 100%.
My apologies to Storeton, not their fault at all!
The aerial doesn't have to be out much to cause problems.

Post Code IP33 2HX and right at the top of a hill with clear line to Sudbury and Tacolneston transmitters. I have a high gain wide band yagi high enough to avoid trees aimed at Sudbury (aligned by compass and meter)with high quality cable throughout. Getting intermittent but persistent pixilation on BBC Ch 4 & Ch5. Signal strength consistently 69-71% but qulaity fluctuating between good and poor on a Bush and a Sagem digibox, particularly bad between 6:00 and 7:00pm most nights but at other times too. Never had any problems until switch-over. Neighbours experiencing similar issues. Tried Tacolneston but no better. Any ideas please?

Andy: Well the trade view predictor indicates your location as having roughly the same level of reception possibilities from both Sudbury @ 17mls / 163 degrees and Tacolneston @ 27mls / 42 degrees, although only the latter indicates ArqA reception as being possible.
When you say you have tried Tacolneston, I assume its via the manually tuning in of the Multiplexes involved? these being (BBC) Ch55 - (ITV) Ch59, the reason for asking being that Linnet Valley (@ 1 mile / 297 degrees) also indicates as good, with its Mux channels being (BBC) Ch26 - (ITV) Ch23, which could easily result in it taking up EPG positions 1 & 2 during an auto-tune due to the TV / box locking onto its low channel numbers.
If though you have verified that you are receiving from Sudbury (BBC) Ch44 - (ITV) Ch41, then the BBC / ITV signal should in theory be crashing in, and as the symptoms of an over powerful signal is "exactly" the same as from a weak one (including signal levels seen) purely for a test to eliminate this possibility, you should try a complete retune using a set top aerial just to see if by any chance the pixilation problem referred to ceases.

Briantist: I see that the BBC have increased the resolution of BBC HD from 1440x1080 to 1920x1080, and are showing the 3D test card and video clip ready for next Saturdays 3D transmission of the Strickly Come Dancing final at the Tower Ballroom, Blackpool.

hi i am information on what freeview and dish to get to recieve all channels i seen someone selling this at a comp fair a while ago for £200 fully fitted with no subscription to pay just a one off payment but cant find any advertised can you help thanks

I am Trying to add another tv upstairs to my sky+ box have all the tramsmitter etc and trying to see if the rf is turn on. When I go into services and press 4 the 0 nothing happenes I have tried this on 2 boxes that I have any ideas thanks

Why am I losing channels right, left and centre in the west of England? One day my channels are stable next day many are missing.
I suspect Freeview is trying to cram a quart into a pint pot to allow more rubbish commercial channels into the available bandwidth.
When are you going to stop messing with the channels?
It isn't my equipment; I have the best aerial in the town - very high gain looking at Mendip.
Clearly time to join Sky as Freeview is such a bloody mess!

Thanks for your comments JB38. I hadn't read your reply until this evening but earlier today, with the aerial on Tacolneston, I did a manual retune on standard frequencies only and pulled the aerial plug out except when in the ranges for Tacolneston. So far this seems to have solved the problem.

We have been watching the freeview channels on a sky dish/ free sky sat box for the last 2 years (no contract). I have just been given an old sky+ box and can get the same free channels. Can I record free channels with this box and if so, how? TVM

Pat: No! as should you wish to use the recording facility it involves subscribing to Sky for the privilege of being able to do so, at I believe to be a charge of £10.00 per month, as Sky has to activate the box to enable it to record whereby they in effect control it.
