I have recently purchased a Humax Fox T2 receiver coupled to a Panasonic with Freeview HD tuner when the Humax is switched on all is OK but when in standby mode I lose all HD channels broadcast on channel 55 from Selkirk but still receive HD channels from Chatton on Channel 39
I have a booster for the Selkirk aerial which has not caused any problems prior to the installation of the Humax receiver

Brian Stanley: Go into your Humax boxes menu system and then in the: settings - system - power management switch off the "power saving in standby" feature, as when "on" is selected that kills the loop through signal to whatever is connected into the boxes RF output socket.

Whom should we contact if we are not getting TV reception? We only pay the licence fees annually and are not connected with any of the channel providers like virgin media or any one...There was thunder and lightning one day(some 15 days back)and both the internet and TV went off.We have a sKy+HD box to which the TV cables are connected as we used to view sky channels earlier but after the end of the contract the cable connection was still there and we were only viewing the free channels on ITV. Could you please tell me who should we contact to get the free service? We have been without TV for over 2 weeks now. Please help!!!

Joaquim Fernandes: First of all, when a person cancels their Sky subscription their box automatically reverts to being a standard box that can only view channels non-dedicated to a Sky package, the other point being that the recording / playback side of the box is disabled by Sky.
That said, to be quite honest about it the only people that's likely to notice a big difference when they cancel their subscription are sports enthusiasts or others who continually view Sky movies, as other than that there is a multitude of channels to view on the Sky box including all BBC / ITV's range of programmes.
But though, I am not quite sure about your exact meaning when you mention cable, as it can be interpreted in a couple of ways, do you have a dish with two coax cables coming from it and into your Sky+ box?

Joaquim Fernandes: Just to clarify, the reason for asking if you still have a dish was simply because if you did then you do not require anything connected into your Sky box except these two coax leads plus the cable that couples your box into the TV, also of course the cable that goes into your mains power socket.

Joaquim Fernandes: Since your TV must have at least one HDMI (you say you had Sky HD), its likely you have at least Freeview in the TV - why not use that?
You havn't given a postcode, but even an indoor aerial might be worth a go, just so you can get something.

I'm new to Freeview (Humax and BT) and have some questions if anyone can help please.
1.I am in Holt in Norfolk (NR25) and have lost reception quite a lot in the month that I have been with Freeview with the box saying weak or lost signal.
2.Is an aeriel an aeriel or can you get good quality and bad quality ariels.
3.Today my signal has been down a couple of hours or so but most of the time the signal if lost goes in the evening....is there a reason for this?

Frank: 1) You live in North Norfolk, which is well known as a Freeview problem area (my parents-in-law live in Burnham Market, and I get lots of customers from the area as well).
Looking at the terrain plot, there is something in the way about 2.5km from you towards the Talconeston mast, which might account for your reception problems. You seemingly have great terrain for the 'lite' transmitters at Wells or West Runton, but obviously you only get some channels.
You could try what loads of other people tend to do, and try Belmont - nothing in the way, but a fair distance and Yorkshire local news!
2. - See ATV A.T.V (Aerials And Television) FM DAB TV Aerial, plus poles and brackets for everything to do with aerials - very useful. Yes, some aerials are better than others!
3. Could be how your TV signal is refracting around a hill, etc - I'm sure someone more expert than me can explain.

Thanks Mike, I didn't think West Runton was still active as the guy who installed my aerial said to select Anglia which is apparently Tacolneston.
We had enough of sky as we didn't use it and went with BT due to the free box and sport and we haven't had a signal since around 9am today.
We are actually on quite high ground here as we are above the Glaven Valley.
So far it's cost me £325 and I haven't got a signal so kind of takes the free out of "Freeeview".

Frank: According to the Digital UK tradeview, its still active, but greyed out on the terrain plot, so God knows! Burham seems to be OK, but its still lite.
Dave Lindsay will give a much better account of reception problems than I ever can, but if you've got something between you and the transmitter, then even though your high up, there is still going to be a problem (the weather makes a difference as well). Belmont seems to be a better bet (I think thats what my parents-in-law use), but the whole area is a bit hit and miss.
Could I ask how you managed to spend £325? I'm not convinced an aerial was perhaps a perfect option, but its shouldn't have cost that much and the BT box is a package (my parents have the same deal) - its £249 retail.
Easiest suggestion? If you've still got your Sky dish, try Freesat, or at least use your old sky box Can I stop paying Sky and use my satellite receiver to get Freeview ? | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice at least be able to watch something for the meantime(you might have Freesat in your TV). Humax will do you the oldie but goodie Foxsat 500gb for £129 Manager's specials - HUMAX UK Direct Sales Website so you can watch and record in the same way you could with Sky plus.
Freeview is kind of free, but you live in an area which is a bit dodgy for it, so it works when it works!
