Channel One to close, Challenge to come to Freeview
Sky is closing one pay and one free channel from the portfolio it bought from Virgin TV, because they match channels already provided by Sky.
Bravo and Channel One (which was Virgin 1 and before that FTN) will close.
This means that the Channel One slot on Freeview will be replaced with the quiz show channel Challenge.
Challenge is now in the Freeview guide on 46. If you can't see it yet, please follow these instructions on your set-top box or Freeview TV: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv.

Hi all,
Sky will not move on this, so the only thing we can do is make other arrangements.

it is sad to say that one of the best freeview channels has gone!! im so disappointed at this, i think in future i will turn to internet based tv as i will definitely not be paying a subscription for all the garbage they show, then make u pay again for the stuff you really want to see.

Hi all,
I contacted CBS ACTION last night to make them aware how channei 1's closure has upset Star Trek fans & that the Star Trek fans were looking for a new home, I received a reply this morning thanking me for letting them know & that they were watching the situation.
It cant hurt to let a free to air channel that already shows two star trek series know that there is a waiting audiance for more !

Over the last few years I have watched as, one by one, channels are removed from the FREEVIEW platform. For 'financial' reasons BBC cut back its spare channels (300, 301, 301) from three to one, as well as its multi-page news channel; ITV News was removed; Men&Motors channel replaced FTM (or FTC?) and then went as well. SKY took out freebie SKY SPORTS NEWS, plus messed about with SKY Text - now you can't listen to SKY News while looking at SKY Text at the same time! Watch out - next to go will be freebies SKY 3 and SKY News channels, mark my words!! In the end, FREEVIEW won't be worth having, and Murdoch and co will get their pound of flesh - the filthy greedy rich get richer, and don't give a toss about viewers watching for free! Just keep your shareholders sweet and charge for everything!

Mick: The BBC swapped the interactive channels for the capacity for BBC One HD and BBC HD.
Sky have taken off their Sky Sports News channel to encourage people to pay for it on subscription. That is how they make their money, being a commercial plc that is their whole reason for existence.

Ever since Sky and Bskyb started transmission they have wittled and changed their programme lists. If anyone has believed it has been to give the "customer" better service you`ve been very naive. The whole concept of media and entertaintment Moguls is to make money for themselves to enjoy their lifestyles.
Remember, Murdoch and his cronies not only own Sky, etc they also own The Sun, News of the World,Daily Mirror, The Times, and have shares in BBC and other media. So all in all they don`t give a toss how much you miss Channel One!!
If you want to save money and get a life why don`t you buy the books and find other ways to enjoy your sci-fi. There is a life outside of satellte tv!
After all, you are using one of the best alternative media methods -the internet!
Murdoch and his cronies probably have fingers in this as well, but at least you can find somethng they might not own or control totally.

Hi Marj,
Most people who visit this site will know im not a murdoch fan, however we should stick to the facts.
1) Neither he or his cronies own the mirror
2) They do not have shares in the BBC
3) He doesn't own sky yet

Mark Aberfan Aerials: Should also probably add that they are not "his cronies" but "his children".
