published on UK Free TV

(For details of Oxford switchover, including Ascott under Wychwood, Charlbury, Guiting Power, Icomb Hill, Over Norton see the switchover ends article.)

Tonight the changes below take place. If you use these transmitters, you will need to perform a a "first time installation" retune (sometimes "Factory Reset" or "Shipping Condition") on your Freeview box or televisions set at around 6am in the morning.

If you can't recall how to do a "first time installation", you can do this: My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound or the channel line up is wrong

The changes are:

The Wrekin - SDN moves from C31 (and C49) to C41+, ArqA moves from C57 to C44, ArqB moves from C53 to C47.

Lark Stoke - SDN moves from C31 to C41+, ArqA moves from C57 to C44, ArqB moves from C60 to C47.

Bromsgrove - SDN moves from C31 to C41+, ArqA moves from C29 to C44, ArqB moves from C34 to C47 - note ALL OUT OF GROUP - WIDEBAND AERIAL REQUIRED

Mendip - MuxA on C62 becomes SDN on C48 (final due to Oxford end), Mux C on C56 becomes ArqA on C67 (moves again 28 Match 2012), ArqB moves from C67 to C52 (final due to Oxford end).

Cirencester (9am) - D3+4 moves from C30 to C29 (due to Oxford end)

Hutton (9am), Portishead (noon), Woodcoombe (9am) - BBCA moves from C48 to C59 (no longer used at Mendip), D3+4 moves from C52 to C62 (no longer used at Mendip).

Changes at Mendip allow COM multiplexes at Huntshaw Cross to now operate at full power.

Trevor: Yes, here is the page from October 2007 Freeview on Bromsgrove TV transmitter | ukfree.tv - independent digital TV and switchover advice with the details on showing indeed that would be the case that Bromsgrove would be out-of-group.

Hi Brian,

re Wrekin Transmitter

Sorry for being slow in replying re unable to receive ITV4. My postcode is SY8 3HF. I note from DigitalUk postcode checker that Wrekin ArqA & ArqB will remain on 10000 Watts - ie poor / no reception. There are no plans apparent to improve this state. So for the channels covered - do I need to migrate to satellite ?

Cheers.

Briantist.
Thanks for that and I take it that the information was available. I am still not sure however what " would be out-of-group " means other than not in the coverage of aerial band A if this had not been changed. Thanks again.
Trevor

I presume there is no way of knowing what the aerial group is without access to the aerial which I do not have.

Chipping Campden

Our postcode is GL55 6UT. We are apparently served by Lark Stoke and we never had any freeview problems until recently. Around 9 September we could not receive BBC1 or other BBC cannels but BBC4 was all right. Two weeks later we could not receive anything. On 8 October we could receive BBC channels but not ITV. The Sutton Coldfield transmitter which serves some houses in the Chipping Campden area was recently converted. We believ this affected our TV reception. When will this become satisfactory?

Mr J T Stuart: Re: aerial access statement, when you say that "you do not have", are you meaning that you cannot view it at all? even at a distance? if though by any chance you can, then there is a square plastic cap pushed into the end of long horizontal arm that holds the elements (NOT the end that the reflectors are mounted on) and its the colour of the plastic cap that indicates the group.

Trevor: "would be out of group" means that the planning for the transmitter put the commercial multiplexes on frequencies where a wideband aerial would be required.

Mike Green: 10kW is the final power level, so yes you will have to use Freesat/Sky if you want more channels.
