My Sky box has a "no signal message" - what do I do?
If you are getting the message "no signal" this would indicate that there is a problem with the signal from your dish into your box. Even without a card inserted into a Sky Digibox, if there is a signal, you will always get Sky Guide and the free channels.
Try powering off your box, remove the card, check carefully the cables, especially the connection to the dish, reapply the power and then when asked to insert your card you should then be able to see (for example) Sky News on 501 and the BBC News channel on 503.
Once you can see any channel, reinsert your card. This should, after about one minute, give you the channels you expect, such as 103, 104 and 105.
There are three ways you can attempt to reset your box. Please see
What can my do when my Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' ?.
If you continue to get "No signal", you dish may have been misaligned, or there may be a fault with the cables and connectors, or a problem with the Digibox. You can see the signal strength by pressing SERVICES, then 4-SYSTEM SETUP and 6-SIGNAL STRENGTH.

Hi I had bad reception so adjusted the dish, it now shows good signal strength and quality, but when I try to select any channel it says no satellite signal being recieved. I have chanhged the LNB and the dish, have also tried other boxes I have, all the same, what could be causing this ?

Brian: What type of satellite box are you referring to, Sky or Freesat as well as the model involved.
However, when you say that you have good signal strength and quality what level does this represent on the indicator bars?, because both have to be around a minimum of 50% or so for the boxes decoder to operate correctly, anything under liable to give a "no signal" indication even although the signal is actually there, this type of thing applicable to all digital reception devices albeit that the minimum levels can vary from box to box.
By the way, the ideal levels for glitch free reception on Sky boxes is around 70 / 75% strength, and with the quality always being the same or in excess of the strength and never under, because if it is then the dish requires slight adjustment.

It is generally a bad idea to attempt to 'adjust' the position of a dish. The aim has to be very accurate as the satellite is around 40 km above the Equator and not due south either. What could now be happening is that the dish may be pointing to another satellite group nearby and getting some signals from them but the signals do not match those provided by Sky or Freesat, so they cannot be decoded and hence the 'No Signal' message.
I would suggets getting a professional satellite system installer to correctly align your dish.

I have recently changed to a 1.1m dish to improve reception in bad weather. I found the satellite quickly and got a very strong signal and quality using the signal test function. I had a lock and all the other readings in the boxes on the signal test page looked good, but when I select a channel I get no satellite signal being received. If I immediately go to the settings / signal test all is as was? Getting very confused! Tried other boxes and lab's but still same. Any ideas? Thanks Matt.

Richard: The reason for, can almost be taken as a foregone conclusion that the problem is connected with your installation and not Sky, being either with the box itself or the feed to from the dish.
If you are connected into a communal dish system? then the electrical supply to the distribution system amplifier is possibly being switched off for some reason or another.
Maybe you could clarify on what type of box you are using, and also whether or not you are on a communal dish system.

jb38: Sorry should have replied much earlier to share the resolution to my issues. Basically I moved the dish so the tree was not directly in the sight line to the satellite.
As I said, nothing had changed in the previous installation for 10 yrs. But maybe the long wet winter, which was warmer than previous year, had made the leaves on that tree juicer/thicker. Result. Had a greater effect absorbing the signal from the satellite. Probably need a tree specialist to comment on that. I'm just guessing
I was going to have to do this at some point due an extension to the existing house. Anyway. Moving the dish about 5m to the right, maybe slightly higher made the difference. Signal and quality indicators not far of the maximum.
Never trust a tree........get a chainsaw......

Andrew: Many thanks for the update, better late than never! as I am always interested to know the outcome of any replies given.
On the subject of the tree, tree foliage no matter how dense has a blocking effect on all UHF RF signals, but especially so when they are of a microwave nature such as used by satellite equipment. and where line-of-site is super critical as far as any obstructions to it is concerned.
Anyway, pleased to know that you have now rectified the problem.

matt auty : (Brian ? ROI) - (1) What type of satellite box are you mainly referring to? (2) When you select a channel is this done from the EPG (guide list) or purely by punching in the channel number?
My reason for asking being, if the guide list can be viewed then the box has to be locked onto the default transponder, the signal strength as well as quality also being indicated from same on Sky boxes.
