To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply. :)
The splitter is an outdoor one. I have replaced it with a new one but no change. The cable runs are around 10 meters. You may be right, I may have to low a signal to split it. However they both worked fine before last Saturday. I will try and remove the splitter but at the moment I do not have a single connector to use so I will have to pop to the shops. Thanks again

Danny: It could be that previously the signal was "only just" strong enough and that it's "only just not" quite strong enough.

For more information on this, see the encyclopedia on this subject by ATV Sheffield. This page explains about the "cliff edge" of digital signals which results in all or nothing, which is probably what's happened in your case:

Danny: Thanks again Dave. I think you are right. I'll have a look at the page now. Do you think this would be considered an installation fault? I only ask as if not they said they will charge me £40 call out.

Thank you

Danny: I would think it would not be considered an installation fault. From what you describe, it sounds like the signal level has dropped a bit. It could be the weather, a building that has been put up, a tree that has grown. Obviously installers aren't responsible for such things.

In any case, if you supplied the aerial and it isn't sensitive enough (for pre-DSO channels), then it's not down to the installer's choice.

It *might* be that it will come back. In any case, you will get it back in five months time when switchover occurs. So anything you do in an attempt to get the missing channels now will only be of benefit for the next five months anyway. As you get all but one, the installation is probably plenty good enough once switchover has occured.

I should say that I'm not an installer, just technically-minded, so these are my own thoughts (along with reasons why I say what I say).

Alexa: The first stage of switchover which took place on 9th November introduced only BBC channels. The others will started from 23rd.

Until then, you will have to watch ITV and C4 on analogue (the old TV system).

I have a Goodmans freeview recorder GHDD1782DVBT. It now will not record - I suspect since the recent changeover - although it will play existing recordings. In the 'Recordings List' display the 'Free Disk' figures are corrupt and do not change when I delete unwanted recordings. I have recordings which I want to keep. How to resolve this? My Post Code is NN13 5SF.

I have a Humax F2-FOX-T and my postcode is NP12 3LD, I am having a No or Bad Signal message on UHF channel 42 (SDN multiplex) which carries ITV 3, 5USA etc, The box scans the frequency and the list of channels appear. The other multiplexes are received with no problems.
I also have a Bush freeview HD box and my mothers 42inch Toshiba HD ready tv display the SDN multiplex channels and the other multiplexes with no problems.
