My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.
Chris: I'm not in the industry, but based on the information from Ofcom and Digital UK I suspect that, in all seriousness, that this situation will remain until 27th June 2012.

Dartford
Hi mark, i am in the DA10 area (swanscombe), as i say it is normally ok, it only seems to be for about the last week. And some days its a lot of messing around (as per my previous msg), like over the weekend and some days its absolutely fine!
So if it is this inversion effect that you mentioned and probably not my box, i guess there is nothing that can be done then? right?
Also, after the digital swtichover date, is the freeview signal likely to be stronger? I hope so, as we wont have the analogue option to fall back on then will we?

Caroline,DA10 Swanscombe near Dartford.That is correct.As you earlier indicated if yer digibox only had this problem over the last week or so due to anti-cyclonic (high pressure) over the near continent and most of eastern UK generally suffered with atmospheric disturbances,the inversion effect is the most likely cause of this and as such while it lasts there is nothing that can be alleviated as such,only wind,rain and cyclonic conditions,etc,(low pressure) will relieve the effects of inversion. Secondly as you only left a partial postcode,a full postcode ascertains which main transmitters/relays covers your area,is yer aerial mounted outside on the roof,inside in yer loft or inside on or near your TV.Is it polarised horizontally facing either Crystal Palace or Bluebell Hill transmitters,or polarised vertically facing either Greenwich,Woolwich or Gravesend relays.Whatever happens after DSO2 in your area (either Wednesday 18 April 2012 or Wednesday 27 June 2012) digital signals will be increased as such considerably more so if yer on Crystal Palace (200kw) mast after DSO2,Bluebell Hill mast if you were on this will be 20kw after DSO2 (Less of an increase however if ya receiving vertical polarised relay transmissions as such). Finally,if yer digibox works normally in normal weather patterns without any inversion whatsoever you have no need to replace it unless you decide do,and as for analogue once its gone it disappears forever yet once analogue completely disappears from UK TV airspace altogether (by Wednesday 24 October 2012) hopefully the atmospherics/inversion effect should become less of a problem and possibly disappear completely but this is not guaranteed as such,wait and see come that time !

Hi
Have the same problem as Marianne in a missing Yesterday, channel 12
& Film 4, channel 15. Sometimes I retune and get them and then 10 minutes later, 'no signal' pops up. Other TV's-in the house seem to be able to keep it but Panasonic TV and HD free view box in the lounge do not. CO16, Tendring in Essex.
Frustrating

Bernard Peard: Perhaps you can clarify which TVs are connected to which aerials. What are the "silly channels" you make reference to? Do any TVs successfully tune into any channels (multiplexes) and if so, which? What is the signal strength on these multiplexes?

Engineer came out today and everything is working perfectly. I didn't see him so I wasn't able to find out what the problem was. Thanks anyway to Dave Lindsay for your attempts to solve the problem.

We had excellent signal quality on Freeview until the Oxford transmitter switched to fully digital. Since then, we have had problems with ALL ITV channels as well as various others. I am having to retune the box on a daily basis, and tried a different Freeview box- no difference. Is there a known problem? Why should the removal of the analogue channels foul up the digital ones? What do I need to do to correct the problem?

Steve H: Removal of the analogue channels does not cause the digital service to foul up. However the higher power digital transmissions do sometimes cause problems if viewers have boosters set up for the low power services, which then deliver too much signal when fed with the new high power signals. Another possibility is the tuning-in of a weak signal from an alternative transmitter which is found first when scanning, the correct signal on a higher frequency being ignored as a duplicate or stored as a variation in the 800s of the channel list. If a receiver does an automatic channel scan every night it is possible that the "wrong" transmitter is tuned in every night, a retune later in the day when the alternative transmitter is not as strong restores the correct channels. Before retuning note the frequency or UHF channel number of the channels which are giving trouble, then see if there is a change to this information after a retune. Lastly , a few receivers play up when receiving channels which have a frequency off-set. On the Oxford transmitter both D3+4 (ITV1&2, C4, C5 etc) and ArqA (Sky News etc) have a -ve offset, whilst BBCA has a +ve offset.
