To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

nick: Try manually tuning UHF channel 24 (for ITV/C4/C5 etc). This is the channel used by the Buxton relay.

Hullo JB38
I'm Sorry, a misunderstanding.

DTR210/05
digi box has a scart AND co-ax (rf)outputs

this digi box IS supplying a DTV signal to an analogue tv through its scart connector. however when I connected a different tv that only has a co-ax aerial connector I get nothing at all on the tv.so I guess that prior to switchover, the digibox only routed the Analogue signal through via the co-ax connector?and now there is no broadcast analogue inputsignal......so no output?

Bob: Fully understand what you mean now! as I had a look at the manual for that particular box and it appears to be one of the types that to save on manufacturing costs wasn't fitted with an RF modulator, the RF output socket fitted on it purely being a loop through facility, this to enable the aerial signal to pass through the box and onto TV's elsewhere without "adding" (as is done in boxes with modulators) an analogue modulated signal to the signals passing through it from the aerial.

In other words, viewing a Freeview programme on this box can only be done via its scart output socket.

Im from clacton as well CO15 and have since lost film 4 , yesterday etc since the retune. Its really annoying considering that just last year we bought a new digital ariel and had it installed which cost 150 quid. We were happily getting all the channels before the retune. Why has this happened? It seems that quite a few other people have the same problem. I have tried doing a factory reset on a brand new 3 month old LG tv and retune but this is not helping. Also manual tuning does not find anything, Do you have any suggestions as of what i can try next? thanks in advance

Luton area: lost all channels just after 10pm, Thursday 8 Dec., there doesn't seem to be any information about loss of service in this area though.

I have a very annoying (and extremely frustrating) reoccurring problem which requires a retune of my integral Freeview Sony Bravia TV. My stored BBC3 & BBC4 keep changing uncommanded to ITV1 Wales & S4/C respectively. Since I got the TV in February, this has happened occasionally, but this week the situation has become intolerable. There were at least 2 days where I had to retune at least 4 times in a day, and even one day where I was up to 6 retunes. On this day, my Freeview required a retune after only 2 minutes!!!! Also affected is VIVA which becomes ITV1+1 (without a clear signal!)

John Finn: The problem is because your TV keeps tuning to another transmitter which I guess will be Moel y Parc.

Carry out the procedure at the top of this page. Then run the auto-tuning scan without the aerial lead plugged in and when it gets to 70% plug in the aerial lead.

This will have the aerial unplugged whilst it is scanning the frequencies used by Moel y Parc. The gap between those used by it and Winter Hill (which is what you want) is very close that you might not get the aerial plugged in in time to get them all. If it is the case that some are missing, then you should be able to add them manually and the lowest ones are as follows:

Ch54 HD services (only applicable if it is a HD TV)
Ch55 ArqB - Yesterday (and others)
Ch58 SDN - ITV3 (and others)
Ch59 D3&4 - ITV1/C4/C5 (and others)

If the problem manifests itself again, you will need to look to see if there is some option that can be turned off to stop it looking for new services.

will shimmon: If your aerial is mounted for vertical polarisation and pointing at Aldeburgh no amount of boosting is likely to enable reception of extra channels. Looking at your reception predictions the most likely transmitter to provide signals on the COM muxes at the present time is Tacolneston. Reception is shown as variable however, so careful positioning of the aerial may be required to receive the required signals. Direction for Tacolneston is NW, set for horizontal polarisation. After 27th June 2012 you might find Sudbury provides a more reliable alternative, otherwise I would suggest receiving the PSB muxes from Aldeburgh and the COM muxes from Tacolneston, with the 2 aerials linked via a diplexer in order to achieve reliable reception on the PSB muxes as Tacolneston shows a deterioration in reception over time, especially on C50 which is to be used by Mux BBCB from a date yet to be announced in 2013. Mux ArqB will use C39+ from when the change takes place and shows a slight improvement in predicted reception as a result.

John finn go into the menu and find anything that says auto update and switch it to off this will stop any change to your settings . To tune it in unplug the aerial and start a full retune plug your aerial back in when it reaches 69% if you follow all of this you shouls get winter hill and it will stay the same, the only problem with this is when a new channel comes out you have to do a full retune again hope this helps
