To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

SARA: Is it a communal aerial system that you're using? If so, ask your neighbours in the building if they are having issues.

What's your analogue reception like?

Hi Dave

The analogue is ok, itv is a bit dodgy but the others are fine.

I tried to tune it again today. The channels affected are ITV, ITV2, C4, MORE 4, C4 +1 AND E4. Wierdly enough we have ITV2 +1 AND E4 + 1.

We have a communal ariel but I dont know what my neighbours are experiencing, and most have sky, not freeview

Hi my mother lives in Croydon in CR0 5 area and has always received a good freeview signal but last week she lost ITV3.

I have reset the box a couple of times by following the instructions but all that happened was she lost more channels - now Channel 5 and ITV and Channel 4 have gone.

She has her own aerial in a block of flats that points directly at Crystal Palace.

Could anyone help?

Many thanks

Hi there Bub, I've aquired a Goodmans LD2667D TV and all it does is go into standby mode. Is there a way of factory resetting this TV?
Regards,

SARA: I feel that it should be pointed out that nothing you have reported can really be classed as abnormal, insomuch that reception indications (trade view) for your p/code area shows that only variable reception is presently possible from the 4 PSB multiplex transmitters in use, with only the 3 commercial muxes showing as reasonably good, these covering programmes like ITV3 / Pick TV / E4+1 / Yesterday / ITV4 etc.

This being the case there is nothing you can really do about it, as its doubtful if any tweaking of your communal aerial set up would really improve anything.

The other downer I noticed is, that come next April when stage 2 of switchover takes place the situation reverses, as then its only the main PSB muxes that's shown as OK for reception, as the 3 commercial ones that's presently indicating as reasonable take a dive into the status of being variable.

Reception predictor forecasts does have its faults as far as accuracy is concerned as they cannot cater for local conditions regarding signal obstructions etc, but they cannot be totally dismissed.

SARA: I think that it's likely that there is nothing wrong with the tuning on your TV/box. Therefore, there is no point in retuning because the frequencies that it has selected are correct.

It is probably, as jb38 suggests, the location you are in. It is something that you will have to live with until April when switchover occurs. I would be optimistic about the chances after then. The thing that is in your favour (which might not be taken into account with the predictor - jb38, do they take into account height of buildings?) is that you're in a three-storey building (plus roof space) which means that your aerial is higher up and hence increases the chances of a better reception.

SARA: And just on the subject of tuning, you should try to refrain from the temptation of re-tuning every time you find an EPG channel is missing, because as far as your box is concerned it wont be! but just that the signal has dropped to under the level that can resolve a picture on your particular TV / box, as if you re-scan and its still at that level the box might not capture it, this creating the situation whereby rather than just having a quick check to see if its came up in strength again, you will have to carry out repeated re-scans to try and recover it, as the previous re-scan will have scrubbed it from the memory.

To prove this point, when on any problem channel go into the signal check menu and note the signal strength being shown, then if you lose the channel again (for the aforementioned reasons) stay on the EPG number and carry out another signal check (albeit on the blank screen) where you will no doubt notice that the signal is still there but just at a lower level, this applies to all boxes TV's and boxes.

The motto is, once all the channels are there in the EPG do not carry out any further re-scans, as it achieves nothing.
