To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

ian m: Its possible that you are suffering from single frequency interference from either the high powered Sandy (Anglia) transmitter or maybe even from Sheffield, as both mentioned use Ch24 as does Nottingham
for ITV1 etc, there really isn't anything you can do about this as the problem will vanish once conditions change, that is provided your aerial is mounted vertically as well as you mention, facing towards Nottingham.

Another thing that can do it is if you have the aerial going through a device with an RF modulator (e.g: Sky box / VCR etc) and its analogue output is tuned to Ch24, but as that would permanently block your digital signal and you say the problem comes and goes, means this is not likely to be applicable.

ian m: Albeit this suggested as a temporary measure and might not work anyway because of Waltham being horizontally polarised, but you could try carrying out a manual tune on Waltham's ITV1 on Mux Ch54 as you might pick it up on the near rear of your aerial, as Waltham is shown as being possible to receive at your location.

If you did try a manual scan and observed some channels being picked up (dependant on equipment used) they would likely be pushed up into the EPG's 800 ranges, so you would have to check up there for them.

I normally use Craigkelly and/or Black Hill transmitters. Yesterday I lost all the channels for COM5 and COM6 (groupings as per link below FYI) and I suspect it is to do with yesterday's storm. My aerial is in the loft so it has not moved and I have tried re-tuning my box. Anyone else having same problems?

Jeanette: If you are on Craigkelly, then you need to manually tune to 45 and 39 for COM5 and COM6 respectively.

If you are on Black Hill, then it is Ch44 and Ch47 you need.

To find out which you are on, change to BBC One. Then go through the menu to the signal/strength screen. On there it will tell you the UHF channel that it is on.

If it says Ch27 then you are receiving from Craigkelly and if it says Ch46 then you are picking up Black Hill.

The best thing to do in these circumstances is not to retune. Doing so results in the TV not being tuned and you won't know when the transmitter has come back on again.

I have a problem with my humax.
When watching bbc 1 or 2 on my pansonic tv,
If the humax comes on to record i lose the signal on the tv. This does not happen if watching itv.

paul: Not mentioning your location is an impediment as far as being able to check on the transmitter you are receiving from or the signal strength expected from it, but "if" your Humax is a 9200 model then its RF modulators output which is pre-set to Ch36 could be sitting on the same channel as BBC1, needless to say this requiring to be set on another channel.

Of course this is something that usually only shows up if the aerial is fed into the Humax then from its RF out to the TV.

If you come back with the info mentioned further advice can then be given.

The message on the TV says 'Weak or No Signal check the antenna cable connection" has appeared on our television since pm on the 6th January 2012. We had the same problem around Oct/Nov sometime for about a day. Our aerial is on the roof and is tuned into the Oxford transmitter as we have a building obstructing the sandy signal. All our tv's are affected so we know that they are ok.

Recently my Humax 9300t appears to have retuned to Sutton Coalfield and, I think, since then we've been receiving a stuttering picture & sound. In contrast the TV is picking up Waltham (our original transmitter) and is free from any problems. They both use the same aerial (with a very simple splitter), but are picking up different transmitters. I've tried a manual re-turn on the PVR as recommended elsewhere, but his was no good. Any ideas please?
