To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

I have 3 freeview TV's (one Panasonic, one Philips and one LG)in the house, all connected to the same aerial on the roof. All TV's are picking up all channels with no problems but only two will pick up the EPG. The panasonic viera programme list says that there is no programme data (no event) although it is listing all the channels we can receive etc. I've tried retuning and manufacturer reset but nothing works, the channel listing remains stubbornly blank. I live in HP14. Any ideas?

Bev: No one can possibly offer advice when you havent mentioned your location (pref: post code) nor anything about the model of device (TV or box) that you are receiving on, plus it would also be of assistance to know where your aerial is sited and whether or not you have a booster on it.

My main tv is on cable, but I want to convert an old portable to freeview digital. I live in PO13 I can see the Rowridge transmitter from my window. However, my new digibox and indoor booster aerial do not pick up any channels. I am told that if I couldn't get channel five before then I won't get digital - is this true and if so what can I do about it

vicki: The story about not getting Channel 5 sounds like some old wives' tale! Channel 5 on analogue was broadcast not from Rowridge, but from the power station at Fawley and this closed on 25th March 2009.

Whilst no guarantees can be made, and set-top aerials aren't ideal, if you can see Rowridge then you should be in with an excellent change of reception; no need for a booster, even now! If it's a variable booster, turn it right down to its minimum setting.

If you get the four analogue channels now, then you should be OK for getting digital.

Do you get the analogue channels? If so, put one of them on and move your aerial to get the best signal. Then connect the aerial (without moving it) to the digital box.

Then try tuning in the digital signal.

If the box has a manual tuning facility, then use it. You need to add the following channels using the manual facility: 34, 32, 30, 28, 37, 33

If you have a roof-top aerial, then use it to tune in the TV and then revert back to the set-top one once you've tuned it.

Graeme: Although the situation whatever the cause may have changed by now I haven't seen any other complaints (as yet anyway) of a similar nature regarding the problem you mention, this suggesting that its possibly connected to your installation.

The reason I say this is that many people in the Leith / Leith Walk areas of Edinburgh suffered from signal overloading problems when Craigkelly changed to high power operation and your signal may always be running just on the verges of this, the symptoms being exactly the same as with a weak signal, I therefore suggest that you carry out a signal strength check on BBC as well as ITV3 to get an idea of the signal level you do receive, and should this indicate 100% (or full scale if a signal bar) then this is likely to be the cause of your problem requiring an attenuator to be fitted in line with the aerial socket of your TV.
