To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

If you retune when the reception is poor your tuner will only store the channels which it can see, so when the reception is back to normal you'll be missing channels and will have to retune again. Keep an eye on the weather charts to see when the high pressure has moved away, should be in a day or two, then retune to get all your channels back.

A quick search across the internet shows everyone is having freeview reception problems, which is caused by the recent weather (inversion effect).
I'm near high wycombe and get signals from crystal palace. I've had a nightmare 24hrs of losing and not getting itv, ch5 and all H/D signals. When retuning I keep getting lots of french tv stations.
After more retuning, resetting, unplugging, disconnecting the aerial than I care to remember right now, i've managed to get all of the channels back now except the H/D ones.
I missed most of the chelsea football last night, so please, if there is a god, when I turn the tv back on at 5.15pm I don't mind you taking all my tv channels but please leave me with channel 5 so I can see the man utd match.
To everyone else out there, you'll just have to keep retuning your Freeview receiver until you get lucky (or the weather changes quickly) so you can get all the channels again.

All the tv's (4 in total at my home) have built in freeview. When the analog reception was switched off I lost most of my freeview channels. I purchased a new ariel and thought that this would make a difference. The new ariel, I installed it in the loft, because I had new plastic facias fitted and painted the outside of the house and didn't want rust makes on the paintwork or damage the plastic facia.
I searched online and found an ariel called the SLX digidome with a built in booster which can be installed outside under the evaes, which costs around £49. I was wondering if this would work.
I live in a place called Abercynon in South Wales.
Could you please give me some info.
Kind Regards

Neil: Gauging your likelihood of success requires a more precise location, preferably in the form of post code. This is particularly so in your area as with the hills and valleys, what can and can't be picked up can vary house by house.

You say that when analogue was switched off, you lost many Freeview channels. This implies that you did receive some before. If you received some before switchover, then you must have been picking them up from a main station such as Wenvoe. The relay transmitter at Abercynon did not carry Freeview before switchover and only carries Public Service channels now.

If you could pick up the weaker pre-switchover Freeview signals from Wenvoe (or another transmitter that operated pre-switchover, then you should not have an issue now, being as the signals are stronger.

So if you picked up Freeview before, what did you use?

I don't think the high pressure is affecting me.. When I connect my tv directly to the aerial (bypassing the recorder) I can get all channels again. Is this a fault with Panisonic?

Grace: Not necessarily so, as an aerial being looped through any device before being fed into the TV will in most cases reduce the signal received by the TV, and if the signal is not that strong to start off with any reduction to it is likely to cause it to drop under the reception threshold (cut off point) of the TV.

You can test if this is applying by carrying out a signal strength / quality test on the TV with the aerial going straight into it, then "keeping the TV on the same channel" loop the aerial through the recorder again followed by another signal strength / quality check on the TV, then compare any differences seen.

This said taking it that the recorder is kept either switched on (or in standby) and not completely switched off, something which should never be done on any device used for aerial loop through.

Also are you referring to a DVD recorder?

laura: Although there is always the possibility of some other reason applying, but for the last couple of weeks there have been complaints from all over the UK (especially from South of the border) regarding poor reception, and something which is unfortunately not rectifiable as its being caused by the current wave of high pressure across the country, this resulting in distant stations (including foreign) being picked up which can cause interference to local channels.

Its really a case of waiting until the situation has settled down again as there is absolutely nothing that can be done as it used to affect analogue as well, but with the only difference there being that it only really spoiled the picture by causing wavy lines and such likes on it and not breaking it up, break up being a digital thing.
