My Freeview box has no EPG, is blank on FIVE, ITV3, ITV4, ITV2+1, has no sound o
To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:
Try this:
1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;
2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;
3) wait 30 seconds;
4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;
5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;
6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;
7) do a complete scan for channels again.
The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Andy: Are you sue you actually carried out a factory reset? as that should have deleted all previous channels in the memory.
You should take the aerial out and carry out another auto-tune without it installed and that should blank them out, matter of fact as soon as you see the auto-tune starting immediately cancel it, as that should have been enough to scrub everything stored, then after reconnecting the aerial carry out another auto-tune and see what happens this time.
If you still experience failure then you will likely have to scrub anything stored and manually tune in each of the muxes, these being: Ch23 - 26 - 30HD - 25 - 22 - 28
Another point to note being, if you have any type of in line booster fitted you must by-pass it.

Stephanie Blair: Although you haven't mentioned your location the most like answer is yes! as with a couple of minor exceptions analogue has virtually vanished from the UK, so you will have to purchase a Freeview box and couple this into your TV via a scart lead, making sure first of all that your TV does have a scart socket on the rear or the Freeview box purchased will have to be of the type with a built in modulator, as that couples into the TV via its aerial socket.

Hi,
Having waited for switch over I am still only receiving the PBS1 multiplex (with the channels numbered in the 800 rather than with the correct numbering and EPG). For a brief period I received coms5 earlier this week but that is gone again.
My question is this- I wish to carry out the procedure that you have listed above but the device I am trying to sort out is a dvd recorder, as such it has a memory so unplugging does not make it forget the channels that it has.
Any thoughts as to how to get around this? it is of course possible that we live in a small area that is still a black spot but as we get PBS1 perfectly I think this is pretty doubtful. Even so, it would be great to get the proper EPG setup working
Any help would of course be greatly appreciated

Colita: It does not really matter if a person has not re-tuned their TV or box on a particular date as retuning at any time afterwards corrects the problem, and so if you have re-tuned and there are no channels showing this is because of some other problem, such as being close to the transmitter station and receiving an excessively powerful signal and which an SW4 area could well be.
If you have a set top aerial of the non-battery powered type then plug that in and carry out a re-tune, if this corrects the problem then you will require an attenuator in line with your TV's aerial input socket, needless to say by-passing any form of booster you might have in line.

tim: You will have to carry out a factory reset on your Freeview DVD recorder before carrying out an auto-tune, the factory reset procedure also being called "default setting" or "first time scan" depending on the brand of equipment.
If you have any problems finding reset anywhere in the menu then come back with the model number and this can be checked on.

Thanks. While the user guide is not helpful a google search bought up the instructions instantly.
My channels are now in the correct place. Unfortunately I have gained no channels at all, so I am still operating with PBS1.
Any thoughts? earlier this week I had coms5 as well although the signal was never brilliant. The bbc channels are coming through perfectly, so why are the other muxes that are meant to be at the same power completely unavailable (PBS2,3).
Maybe I wont ever be able to recieve these though that does seem strange

tim: Thanks for that update / location, although its seems to be unfortunately one where on checking suggests that no matter what transmitter an aerial is directed at the signal path between the transmitter and receiving aerial is obstructed at some point by dense trees, and the likely reason why aerials are seen pointing in different directions.
My feelings being that its an area where signals can vary quite considerably between one side of a street to the other and likewise from one side of a roof to the other, albeit of course that they can do to a certain extent in most places and where loft aerials score over roof mounted types, as there is far more scope in a loft for trying the aerial in different positions, as although the actual aerial might be a little less elevated than when mounted on a chimney it does not really make that much of a difference anyway in most difficult reception areas, as in my experience aerial height is by no means always the way to rectify a problem.
Have you enquired locally (maybe neighbours if on sociable terms) what their reception is like, as if it is purely a problem caused by vegetation (trees) then they are very likely to experience erratic reception as well.
The other thing I would like you to do is go into your TV's tuning menu / "manual tune" and enter Ch42 (Hanningtons ITV) but do not scan it, as in most devices as soon as you enter the channel its signal strength / quality will show, but just to test that it does on whatever model of device you are using, try that test first using Hanningtons PSB1 (Ch45) which you know actually works.
I would also like you to try it on Hannigtons SDN mux Ch41, as its only a 25Kw transmitter whereas the PSB's are on 50Kw.
My reason for requesting this test is that there is a possibility that the signal is actually there but just under the reception threshold of your receiving device, and this method of signal checking will show if its there or not without having to store it first.
Maybe you could also indicate the model of DVD in question, and do you have anything else in your house capable of Freeview reception?

Bognor Regis
I have a Toshiba TV with built in FREEVIEW, my aerial is on the chimney, pointing at the isle of Wight and I live at PO21 3LP thats west of Bognor Regis. I have recently retuned my tv and QUEST (and others i think) has disappeared on 38 it just says no programme. I have removed the aerial lead and retuned, then retuned again with aerial connected, still no QUEST. Any advice will be most welcome.
