To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Kelly: You complained of this a year ago.

The same advice applies. Either its a) a high pressure system, which cause a problem earlier in the week

b) You Tv is telling you the problem - your aerial system is borked. Check the cables, etc. If it kepps happening, then your system needs to be checked.

Stephen dockerty: No one can possibly answer that without knowing where you are (please provide a full postcode) and which transmitter you're using. Does your flat have its own aerial or is it connected to a communal aerial system? Have you checked whether any of your neighbours in the same building are having the same problem?

Steve: Do you have the HD channels on 101-115? Freesports is broadcast on the COM7 HD multiplex and therefore requires a TV or box that supports Freeview HD (HD Ready or Full HD isn't enough as that just indicates that the screen can display a HD picture from a HDMI input). Also, are the little rods on your aerial vertical (pointing up and down) or horizontal (pointing side to side)? The Rowridge transmitter is unusual in that the main 6 multiplexes are broadcast in both horizontal and vertical polarity, however COM7/COM8 and the local mux are horizontal only.

Steve: Just notice a slight error after submitting my last post. Freesports is on COM8 (not COM7), however everything else still applies.

I live in Thurso, Caithness and my in-roof aerial is pointing towards Keelylang Hill as it has done since installation in 2011. I understand engineering works are being carried out at Keelylang. Currently my reception on BBC channels and a few others is pixellating and impossible to watch. This has been going on since Thursday 9th November. Could you please explain and advise when normal service for me will be resumed. A TV engineer called yesterday (30) and confirmed the above and recommended I get an outside aerial (125+VAT). I remain patient in the hope that you come up trumps. Thank you.

Mrs H J Rand: The most recent work reported on the Keelylang Hill page is 2nd November. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections? Please provide a full postcode so that we can see where you are in relation to the transmitter and your predicted coverage etc.

StevensOnln1: My post code is KW14 8DG. I tried earlier to reset my Samsung and failed miserably and have no picture at all. But still a pixellated picture on my other tv in another room. But not possible to watch. TV engineer assured me that the new mobile phone transmitter at road end - installed 10 days ago and coincided with my problem - is not the cause - because of a different frequency. However I am not so sure. Any further advice most welcome.

Julia Rand:

Have you asked your neighbours if they have the same problems with reception from Keelylang Hill? If they do not, then it is likely that your system that is at fault. There is no reported work currently on that transmitter so it should be providing normal reception.

The new mobile phone may be causing some local interference so please contact @800 using their website: at800 | 4G & Freeview | 4G interference | 4G Filters | 800 MHz They may be able to help you diagnose the problem if that mobile transmitter is causing the problems for you and your neighbours.

It is also possible that your aerial connections can be causing the poor reception, so please check all of the aerial plugs and sockets carefully.
