To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

BBC Look East is the Local News that is usually broadcast after the main BBC National News. It's normally on BBC1 at 1.30pm, 6.30pm and 10.30pm. There's often bulletins during BBC Breakfast as well, typically at a few minutes to the hour and half-hour.

BBC1 is normally on Button 1 in Standard Definition (SD) or 101 in High Definition (HD) if your set has HD.

If your TV is a "Smart" TV connected to the Internet, you can often watch previous episode using iPlayer.

Adrian Holroyd: There are engineering works at Beacon Hill, which is where Dartmouth gets its signal from:

Planned engineering works | Freeview

I wonder if it could be related to this.

Don't retune because this will just delete the tuning in your TV which may be correct. If the TV is tuned then when the signal comes back it will show again on your TV.

I have just checked with BBC Reception [bbc.co.uk/reception] and it is saying there are no faults with Dartmouth. BBC Reception reports on the two BBC multiplexes only, so this doesn't include PSB2 which carries standard definition ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and others. The PSB3 multiplex which carries all the HD channels is one of the two multiplexes operated by the BBC, the other being PSB1 which carries BBC standard definition TV which you say is OK.

Adrian Holroyd:

Can't find any reported faults for the Dartmouth transmitter, However the transmitter is a Relay of Beacon Hill which is listed for Planned Engineering with Pixellation or flickering on some or all channels which may mean that the Relay loses signal on some occasions.

Do NOT retune. Signals will return, they aren't usually missing for lengthy periods.
IF you have retuned that was a mistake as you cannot tune to signals that are not there or cannot be decoded (badly pixellated/sound breakup), the usual result is to clear what was your correct tuning.

Check in your TV Tuning section thjat you are correctly tuned to Dartmouth's UHF channels which are C32, C34, & C35 the latter two being the two you are missing.

If you are still having an issue, post back with a full postcode and more detail - when the problem started, anything you've done, also check obvious things such as your aerial looking intact and still pointing correctly and all your coax plugs/connections correctly plugged in and free of corrosion or water.

For the last few days we have been having interference on the majority of channels. We have noted that there is ongoing work at Winterhill, but it would seem that the problem becomes far worse after 5.00 pm. Could you tell me how long these works are to continue. We have had no problem today the 17/01/24 until 5.00 pm when everything has gone haywire. Looking forward to your response.

Annemarie woods:

I'm afraid that Arqiva (who are responsible for the majority of transmitters and the engineering work) never provide details of what the works entails or how long it will last, and it often can be weather dependent.

The Engineering list for Winter Hill states "Pixelation or flickering on some or all channels" which suggests the use of Reduced Power and/or use of the Reserve Antenna. This can ,mean that if your are in an area of marginal reception it can cause reception problems and even occasional loss of signal.

Do NOT retune, you can't tune to signals that aren't there or can't be decoded, the usual result is to clear your correct tuning, and sometimes maybe get tuned to weak signals from another transmitter which can disappear as the weather changes.

As you haven't given a full postcode, we can't comment on your predicted reception from Winter Hill (check you are correctly tuned to Winter Hill's UHF channels in your TV Tuning section)
In the multiplex order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, Winter Hill UHF channels are -
The main multiplexes are C32, C34, C35, C29, C31, C37
The Local ones are Local Manchester, Manchester GI on C24 & C27.
Liverpool Local mux on C21, Preston Local mux on C40.
If you hover over the C channel numbers, it should give you the frequency.should you need it.

From your comment, it sounds like reception may be marginal as signal conditions change with the onset of darkness.

Hello. I would be grateful if you could help me with the issue I currently have. I live in Cardiff East and Wenvoe is our closest transponder. Yesterday we had no access to BBC One Wales, just that channel. So I did an autocue and now I'm getting an error that my postcode is unavailable and then I just get all London-based channels because the TV will only scan without a postcode. Now, I quite like having local TV and now I have 0 access to s4c which I watch daily! Please help. Thanks so much.

Lois: If you're being asked for a postcode and then seeing London channels instead of Wales, that sounds like you're using Freesat rather than receiving a Freeview transmitter. Have you tried powering the box off at the mains for a few minutes, then switching it back on, which can cure many glitches?
