How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

mark:
First check if the wind has moved your dish.
Check that the dish cable is pluged into the box and the center wire is not broken or touching the outer wire.
If you know someone else with a satelite receiver, try his box with your dish and your box with dish.
If his satelite box dose not work with your dish then;
the dish has moved, there is a break or short circuit in the cable or the LNB on the dish is not working.

Mark. Above line should read:
Try his box with your dish and your box with HIS dish.

My satellite signal has been great since installed in Dec. In recent months signal has deteriorated and no "no signal". This is on receiver in TV and PC so points to a dish problem. Spent all day rewiring new cable and connectors and using a compass and sat finder to realign dish many times. No luck. Finally worked out the trees 2 doors down have growth and now have leaves so probably blocking signal. Nowhere to re-site dish so im not sure where to go now (PS neighbours trees have a TPO so need planning permission to prune) any advice welcomed but main purpose of this comment is not to do what i did .... check signal line of sight before fiddling... :(

Mr K P Brady: Does the problem happen on all channels, or only some? If all channels, it could be a case of impulse interference or electrical noise. Check whether the problem comes and goes as the central heating or hot water thermostat goes on and off, or a pump goes on and off. If so, get a heating engineer to replace the thermostat or the pump.

The aerial could be pointing at Dallington Park, less than a mile to the south-west, or
Sandy Heath itself, which is slightly south of east. If using Dallington Park, the aerial elements should run up-and-down rather than side-to-side, as they should for Sandy Heath.

If you're using Sandy Heath, and only some channels are affected, this could be expected at the moment. Channels carried on Multiplex A, C and D are currently showing no prediction for NN2 6BU, meaning they're not expected to be reliable, though your box may still be able to detect them well enough to store the location. We need a full postcode for a better prediction.

Dallington Park doesn't even carry these multiplexes, and there is no plan to ever carry them. Depending on the exact aerial and location, they still might come through strong enough from Sandy Heath to be detected - but not reliable - if the aerial does point to Dallington Park.

If using a shared aerial, contact the landlord or agent. See also PARAS - Professional Aerial Riggers Against The Sharks for other ideas of who to contact.

You can also replace the cables to reduce the pick-up of noise. If the TV connects to a wall aerial socket, you can replace just the 'fly lead' that does this last step. Try Online Satellite/TV/FM/DAB Cable, Leads and Connectors sales. . The wall socket might not be properly screened - this would be a job for the landlord if this is a communal system. Finally, it's recommended that if the cables are replaced, that 'satellite-grade' cables (with dense copper braid over copper foil screening) are used, to minimize noise pick-up.

drew jamieson: Yes it could be, just in the same way as a person using a single LNB can suffer from the same thing, as a quad block in effect operates the same as would four single dishes but in one casing.

You should try swapping one of the downleads you know is OK over the the output you suspect as faulty.
