Hi. Looking to change to BT VIP package but have no aerial at the moment. Can get one sorted but the dealbreaker is talking pictures tv.Post code is BN2 8FB. Before I go sorting it all I wondered if we would get it here as detail from online search is not clear? Thanks!

Hi. You are unfortunately in one of those very awkward spots, and it may depend entirely on where you are within your postcode. Whilst predictions are no guarantee, the best may give you poor to very variable reception of the ArqB/COM6 multiplex which carries Talking Pictures.TV from the Whitehawk Hill transmitter. In other parts you may only get (good) reception of the 3 PSB multiplexes from the Saltdean Relay transmitter.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which TV channels are carried on which multiplexes. (Note, there is no Local multiplex receivable where you are).
Your best bet will to have a look at which way your neighbours' aerials are pointing. If there are some pointing roughly at compass bearing 290 degrees, roughly WNW they may be getting some reception from Whitehawk Hill. Ask them how reliable it is?
If however the aerials are pointing roughly compass bearing 40 degrees - slightly N of NE, then they'll be only able to get the Saltdean relay reliably.
Then have a chat with a local aerial contractor - who knows your specific area - there's be plenty who don't!
BT VIP comes via your broadband connection (which needs to be quite fast for the best streaming) and as far as I can make out Talking Pictures is not one of the channels available.
You can get TPTV Encore direct via the internet at

BUT your TV browser may not be able to display it depending on its build standard so you could only view it on a computer, mobile phone etc.

Hello, we are in EH14 area which is served by Craigkelly transmitter. In the last few months we have lost some freeview channels, in particular 82 (talking pictures). Can you help with advice on how to get this channel back, please?
We have tried retuning several times with no luck. There does not appear to be a transmitter problem reported. We previously did have channel 82, so it is really disappointing that we have lost it now!

Talking Pictures TV LCN82 is carried on the COM6/ArqB multiplex which is UHF channel C37 at Craigkelly. The other channels you are most likely to be missing should also be on ArqB. If however you are still getting some of those other channels, then a different approach is needed, Check in the 800s for any channels you are missing.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which TV channels are carried on which multiplex.
In the first instance, try a manual retune on UHF C37.
If you are missing other channels, please say which ones they are as this may help to narrow down the problem.
Roughly how old is your TV aerial and downlead? Have you had a look at the aerial to make sure it looks intact and is still pointing in the correct direction and the downlead is secure and not flapping in the wind.
Please provide a Full postcode so we can check your predicted reception and which way your aerial should point.
The predictors do not work on partial postcodes and they are large areas and there could be possible pockets of poor reception in some areas.
Have a look in your TV Tuning section for Signal Strength and Quality (or Error/BER) figures.for each UHF multiplex. This may be in a section called Signal Test or it may be in Manual tuning. Exactly where can vary from Model to Model.
Have you received a postcard from restoretv.uk advising about possible interference from new or upgraded mobile phone masts near you? If this is the cause you could get a free filter.
Do you have any amp/splitter for signals to more than one set? If so, where is it located, what model is it|?|

Brian: I wonder if freeview Talking Pictures channel 82 is available in the Reigate area as we stayed there close to the M25 over Christmas and could not receive it.

Nicholas Anderson: Reigate is a full service transmitter, so it will be carrying Talking Picture on COM6. Perhaps the TV you were watching hasn't been retuned for a few years or maybe the aerial is pointed at another transmitter. If you put the postcode in to the detailed checker on the Freeview Corporate site it will show you which transmitters are predicted to be receivable.

I live 12 miles from Wenvoe mast, I can see the top of it from the road. My aerial is pointing at Wenvoe. If I understand correctly, data for the mast informs me that Freeview Talking Pictures is on ARQB and transmitted on Channel 39+.
The picture constantly breaks up and is unwatchable. The signal strength is good, the equivalent of BBC and ITV but the signal quality is zero or occasionally a blip into the red region. My tuner also informs me that it is being received on Channel 36.
Mendip transmits ARQ B on channel 36
My aerial is not pointed at Mendip. That would require a change of angle by about 30 and it is about 20 miles away.
Is Wenvoe actually Transmitting Talking Pictures?

Tony1234: Yes, Wenvoe is broadcasting TalkingPictures TV (which is on logical channel number 82).
"Logical channel number" or "LCN" is the number you dial on the remote to bring up a programme channel. It being a "logical" channel number to distinguish from the UHF channel number, which is the broadcast channel, in this instance 39 from Wenvoe, or 36 from Mendip.
