Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?

Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?

No, an amplifier won't normally help with a Freeview signal. Can I suggest the following:

1. If you can raise the aerial up by an extra metre or so;

2. Check the direction of the aerial and that the it is either "vertical" or "horizontal" as required.

3. Check that all the connectors and cables are in good condition, look especially for stray wires from the outer shielding on the cable being loose;

Jean: You are not predicted to get any Multiplex 2 reception until switchover from Bluebell Hill next year, and not from anywhere at all until Roucefall and Sudbury switch on 20th July 2011.

If you have been getting a signal, it is more by luck than anything else.

You might want to consider Freesat as a fill-in service until the middle of next year.

Hi. I live in an Apartment complex & just got a tv with built in free-view for our bedroom however there is no Ariel socket in this room. We have just purchased a Indoor Ariel, which has given us a snowy picture for channels 1-5, however it is not picking up any digital. free-view channels. is there anything we could try/buy to boost the signal? (we've already moved the Ariel to numerous locations and moved the antennae's around but no improvement....Help !!!

Nat: Indoor aerials are unsuitable for Freeview reception. The best thing you can probably do is run an extension cable from one of your working TV out points and run it to the bedroom.

taylor: The Belmont transmitter is now on high power on Mux Ch22, the BBC channels you are having a problem with, and its possibly an over powerful signal blocking your tuners input circuitry that's causing your difficulties.

If you have any form of booster on your aerial system try removing it, however if you haven't, then you may need to purchase a simple attenuator to place in line with the aerial.

A good test though for determining over powerful signal problems is to try a test using a set top type aerial.

It should be pointed out that its only BBC channels that are presently on high power, none of the others until switchover later in the month.

taylor: You could also try a manual tune on Mux Ch22 just to see what is indicated, if nothing (or very low) then that points to problem mentioned.
