How to Reset a Sky Digibox when 'No Signal' appears.

Reset method 1 - Delete and Rescan

  1. Turn the power off at the mains socket. Either do this by pulling the plug from the socket, or using a power switch if there is one.

  2. Remove the viewing card from the machine. Using a dry cloth or kitchen roll, clean the gold connector on the reverse of the card. Do not use any cleaning products.

  3. Check cables and connectors are in good order.
  4. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  5. With the card still out of the machine, plug the Digibox back into the mains.
  6. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  7. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  8. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  9. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

Reset Method 2 - Reset the LNB

If the above method does not work, the LNB may have a fault.
  1. Press the [SERVICES] button and then press [4] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

On Sky HD, press the [SERVICES] button and then press [0] [0] [1] then [SELECT]

Press the buttons in the sequence above exactly - do not atttempt to use [UP] or [DOWN]. Note that when you press the second 0 and 1 nothing happens on the screen until you press the final [SELECT]. This is a "hidden menu".

  2. Then press [1] to go to the RF output menu.
  3. Press [DOWN] three times to highlight the line 22Khz Command and then press [RIGHT] to change the value to [OFF].
  4. Press [DOWN] and [SELECT] to select Save New Settings.
  5. Press [SKY].
  6. Again press [SERVICES], [4], [0], [1], [SELECT]; then [1] again for the LNB Menu. (SERVICES 0 0 1 SELECT for Sky HD).
  7. Now press the [RED] button (reset all settings), then [DOWN] until you can select Save New Settings again.
  8. Press [SKY].

Reset Method 3 - Upgrade the system software

If there are still problems:

  1. Turn the Digibox off at the mains again and remove the viewing card.
  2. Whilst holding down the BACKUP key on the Digibox - NOT ON THE REMOTE - turn the mains power on.
  3. Keep hold of BACKUP until the screen displays a "UPGRADING SYSTEM SOFTWARE" message – this will be white text on a black screen. On some boxes this can appear as a half screen.

  4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the software to download and install. The box will restart when the process is complete.
  5. Ignore all the messages, and wait for around a minute.
  6. Try 101 for BBC One, 102 for BBC Two and 103 for ITV-1.
  7. Insert viewing card, wait a few seconds.
  8. Check 104 for Channel 4 and 105 for five.

claire: This does suggest that you actually have no signal. Either the dish has been moved, a cable disconnected or the LNB on the dish has failed.

Bret: I would get the installer to return and sort it out. It is not acceptable for him to leave without your system working.

some of my channels aren't working, mainly hd channels. it has only started happening over the last few weeks and started as just a couple of channels but now there are at least 15 without signal or with bad, unwatchable quality. currently in the middle of a system software update but the other two methods havent worked. Since most channels work, the dish should be properly aligned right?
ive tried moving the wires around and resetting everything but some channels still arent responding hlep please!

Isy: If "Method 2" does not clear the problem, your dish may be misaligned, or your LNB is failing.

I thought others would like to hear of my experience with Digital TV.

With a neighbour we had a qualified aerial fitter install rooftop aerials to be ready for digital TV. We have always had a bad reception from the Wrekin transmitter resulting in poor pictures on our TV's. We were hoping for a better signal when the area went digital in April. My neighbour had a better picture but only recieved about 30 channels I recieved about 40 freeview channels most of them breaking up. I tried a new cheap rooftop aerial aerial which made no difference. Apperently our signals are being blocked by 40+ ft high Conifer tries about 100ft away along with other close buildings. Another neighbour moved his aerial to recieve Sutton Coldfield transmitter signals and managed to get 90+ signals whilst when I tried the same could not get any signals whatever. I had previously asked in retail electical shops about an aerial amplifier and was told that if a weak signal went in I could only expect a weak signal out. As a last resort I bought a more expensive rooftop wideband aerial (the other aerials were wideband as well) tuned it into sutton coldfield and recieved a signal with about 50 channels some not very good pictures. As a last resort I bought a masthead amplifier for £25 and now recieve 92 freeview signals from Sutton Coldfield most of them watchable and 30 odd radio stations. Cracked it.

Moral - not all experts are experts. I was told more than once that an amplifier would not help if I only recieved a poor reception.

As luck would have it I live in a bungalow so getting on the roof was not a difficult job

Tom: Thanks for that, I've been going on about the only amplification that would work being a masthead amplifier for the last decade.

Tried all three methods and still "no satellite signal is being received", However when I did method three the digibox had red light. I always have to press Sky after putting power back on before it will go green. Should I have done that after the business with holding down the backup button and switching power back on?

p.s.We have a line from our next-door neighbour's satellite dish as we cannot get a signal from our own roof. Their signal is fine. We do have a terrestrial aerial but reception is terrible.
