Boxes that do not support both 2k and 8k modes
Some boxes are having problems during switchover supporting both modes at the same times:- Sharp TU-R160H
- Humax 9200T
- Thomson DTi 1000
The workaround appears to be to add the "8k" channel manually (C62 for Selkirk, for example) and then to do this procedure after switchover is complete: My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002
This is on top of the boxes that could not cope with the changes to the Network Information Table (NIT): Daewoo DS608P, Labgear DTT100, Triax DVB 2000T, Portland DP100 and these VCR/STBs: Daewoo SV900, Bush IDVCR01

Haddington
I receive my signal from Craigkelly (34.5Km). Since June 15, I have not been able to receive channel 5 TV. (All freeview channels worked fine before that). When I tune to Ch5 I get Ch4 instead, but at a slightly lower signal level, which makes me suspect it's coming from a different transmitter. There is another transmitter (Haddington), much closer to me (1.9Km) and in a direct line with Craigkelly, but it's a different polarisation, and according to your polar diagram should be radiating almost no signal in my direction. I've tried the obvious things - re-tuning with the aerial unplugged to reset everything etc. but all to no avail.
Any suggestions?

Phil Taylor: You should try a manual scan on Craigkelly's Ch24, as Ch4/Ch5/ITV2/STV etc are all on the the same multiplex.(PSB2)
(The channels mentioned being on MUX Ch58 on the Haddington transmitter)

Phil T - you seem to have a choice of 3 signals
UK digital TV reception predictor
with Haddington the strongest - it says here. I think the polar diagrams are a bit theoretical - especially when you are so close - as indeed is the polarisation!
NB the * reference for Black Hill - which is in broadly the same direction as craigkelly

jb38: I did try a manual scan of Ch24, which made no difference. (Is it possible to limit the scan to one transmitter? My freeview box doesn't seem to offer that option.)
Steve: Thanks for that. Jeez this stuff is complicated! The transmission path predictor suggests that I should be able to see the Haddington transmitter, but I can't - I think it's behind a stand of trees. I can see Craigkelly though (with binoculars).
Why, if Ch4/Ch5/ITV etc are all broadcast on the same mux, should my freeview box receive them all fine apart from Ch5, and choose to substitute a different channel from a different mux, from a different transmitter in place of that?
If it's going to require a new aerial I think I can well live without Ch5.

Phil: I don't think it's possible to 'receive' one channel and not 'receive' another channel in the same multiplex. You either receive the multiplex or you don't. I think you should check through the numbers to see if channel 5 is in an unexpected place (800s). What does your epg show at between 4 and 6?

Phil - I don't know the rules your boxuses, but it is possible I think that it detects the same mux from two txs and picks different ones to put in the preferred slots 101/2/3/4/5 perhaps by postcode to give you particular versions.
As Scott says, have a look at the 800s; where duplications get put.
Can you actually see which channel you are viewing? (Can with some boxes, not others).
You can control what is scans by unplugging the ae lead when you don't want a channel. Bit hit and miss if close numbers.
A local TV Ae man may be worth his fee fir his experience.
Satellites are good too!

Phil Taylor: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts good reception from Angus, Durris and Black Hill in addition to Craigkelly. Haddington delivers Mux BBCA only, and at lower strength than the other transmitters, the other two muxes from this transmitter being co-channel with stronger signals from Angus. Check the whole of your channel list for a mis-placed Channel Five. Most boxes use the 800s for duplicates and channels which have the "normal" slot already occupied.Others however do place channels randomly in any vacant position. If you have the option to swap channels it is then possible to place the required channels in the preferred positions in the channel list.

Thanks, guys! I now find that channel 5 is actually at 804, as some of you suggested. It's a perfectly good signal, so I can live with that.
The EPG lists ch5 as ch5, but says "no information". I didn't want to deliberately change to another transmitter as I would get the wrong local programmes (Black Hill and Haddington carry the West of Scotland news).

Is there an option to move 804 to position 5? I believe some boxes allow this.
