There have been many reports of problems with Thompson TUTV "Anytime" personal video recorders.

Top UP TV have been telling people that this is due to work being done on the transmitter. This seems to be the case if there is work on the transmitter or not.

A typical description of the problem is this Over the past week or two on changing channels the screen would go black and it would take 5 or 6 seconds maybe more for the selected channel to show, some channels would not be available no sound or picture just black screen and the logo for channel not available at the top of the screen. On Friday I decided to scan the channels in an effort to improve the channel change time and general performance. From that time only 4 BBC channels now available. However I have a TV with built in Freeview and the Freeview channels are available but missing are the Top Up TV channels.

Update

Bryan Jones said: "I've just spoken to TUTV and there response is that the digital switch-over is starting to take place and the old software for the Thomson boxes is kaputten new software is being developed and they hope to be up and running soon in the meantime i was offered a free month, this in the NE of England"

Which is a little odd, as switch-over will not be starting in the Pontop Pike region for another FOUR YEARS. It is hard to know how these boxes that can no longer receive the Top UP TV Service will be able to download the "new software being developed".

At the same time there seems to be a probem with these Sagem boxes: PVR66160T UK, PVR6680T UK, PVR6240T UK (Argos), PVR6280T UK, PVR62160T UK

This seems to be related to the software provided over-the-air to these boxes in the last week, version "0.4.7 MH", however the boxes that do not work seem to have version "0.4.5 MH"

It is always worth trying this My Freeview box has no EPG, is missing Film4, Channel 4+1, no sound on ITV3 or the channel line up is wrong procedure.

The problems may relate to changes made in Freeview mode change in Scotland, NI and the North.

Some people found doing a manual tune for multiplex 1, and the using the menus on the receiver to force a manual download of the software worked, but the transmissions were from 14/07/08 until 9am 19/07/08.

Robert chilton: The usual reason for this happening in boxes such as these is because the total number of channels stored exceeds what the box is capable of storing, this meaning that after having carried out a factory re-set then re-tune go into the channel list and delete everything seen that's not required, many of found up in the 800 ranges.

This must be done before switching off.

Just received an email from Sagem Tech. support to the effect that they no longer support their box and do not have a copy of software for it! The Box is 18 months old!

I will not be buying Sagem again.

db23: It would have been of assistance to know the model of Sagem involved, but with problems such as mentioned its by far the best policy to carry out a factory reset and then start afresh, especially when you haven't actually recorded anything.

Pat oaks: "If" your Freesat box is a PVR (recorder) type then try swapping the two inputs from the dish over, although if its just a receiver then check the "F" connectors at each end of the coax cable by unscrewing the large gland nut that locks them onto the receivers (or dish LNB's) input, followed by carefully unscrewing the body of the plug from the coax to check if any water has entered the connector, finally screwing the connector back onto the coax "after" having ensured that no strands of the braiding are touching the middle core of the cable.
