i have normal aerial connected to hd box aerial in, so the signal to the freeview is from the rf2 on the hd box.

kevin green: Thanks for that update as it fully clarifies the situation now.
What you are doing is the standard procedure and perfectly correct, but you have to remember that when you are viewing the list of Freeview channels picked up by the box your TV will have switched off its internal analogue tuner over to the scart socket thereby blocking the Sky channels from being viewed, the easy way to correct the situation being to press the A/V button on the TV's remote control and that should enable it to revert back to its internal analogue tuner which is being used to pick up Sky's RF2.
The same thing should happen if the Freeview box is either placed in standby or switched off altogether, if you still cannot get the TV back on analogue pull the scart lead out, if that cures the problem then it indicates that either the scart lead is faulty or that the Freeview box is one of the odd types that hogs the scart link if connected to the mains.

Ofcom have taken the Iranian Channel PRESS TV off the Sky Platform. However Press TV is transmitting on Hotbird @12437 H S/r27500 and on Astra 1 1246 H 27500 they also say they are transmitting on Eurobird @ 28 degres transponder frequency is 11222 H S/R 27500 I have tried two free to air tuners and have been unable to locate Press TV all other Channels are present on that Transponder Have Ofcom managed to block that channel on that transponder?

I replaced a sky+ box with a Humax freesat+ HD box to save money and the sky box was playing up - losing signal. The freesat box is now doing the same thing. It's very intermittent and can work fine for months then start losing the signal for some channels. I've remade the connections loads of times because I thought that was the problem, but now I think it's more likely to be a fault somewhere in one of the cables to the dish. Is it better to get someone to look at it or just go to Maplins and replace the cable. As it's an intermittent fault, it's bound to work perfectly if someone comes to check it. Can anyone help?

i have sky+ in my living room and ordinary skybox in the kitchen. quite often the sky+ shows 'no satelitte signal being received' and i lose most channels although never 415 attheraces. the number 25 appears in the top right of the screen. is this a fault code. it never happens in the kitchen.if i turn to 415 and then back again it sometimes fixes but this could be coincidence. can you help please

kevin: Try swapping the "F" connectors in the Sky+ box over for a few days, or at least a bit longer period than you would consider it would normally last without the problem showing up.
The point is though as this test is to verify (or not) if its the LNB at fault dont try recording anything after having swapped the connectors in case it cuts out during the recording.

Michael: Although its always possible that the problem could be caused by the cable it is however much more likely that its occurring at the "F" connection to the LNB, so I would unscrew the "F" plug concerned and check that no moisture has crept in, the give away being the copper core having turned black, then once checked coat it with Vaseline before screwing it back in again and giving it another test.

Michael: Just to add, that what was said was based on you "not" having checked the "F" connector at the dish end, if by any chance you did at the same time as the one at the box end then the fault could be either with the LNB or the cable, especially if the latter has an excessively long loop sweeping up to join the LNB which could fracture by flapping about in high wind.
By the way LNB's can be obtained via e-bay sources for as little as £7.00 to £10.00 or so, so any doubts just replace it.
