What price for an aerial installation?
In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"
OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.
I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).
So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?
Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?
Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?
n day: You need to take the VCR to the local recycing centre, it has no digital tuner and is no longer suitable for use.
Then you need to get a Freeview+ or Freesat+ hard-drive based recorder from a local store.

n day: You may be able to get a recorder without a digital tuner to record from a SCART input. Check your recorder's manual to see whether it can, and how to do this, and the set-top box's manual to see how to schedule it to select the desired channel at the required time.
However, you will not be able to record one programme and watch another without getting another set-top box just for the VCR.
It's all very tricky to set up and make it work reliably, so as Briantist says, a PVR - hard-disk-based recorder - is usually a better option.

Brian - surely he can record on his VCR via a SCART feed?

Hi, I am an aerial installer on the Isle of Wight and we seem to be having serious problems receiving the ITV mux on hannington post 1st changeover. A customer in Rookley has been told that Hannington no longer serves them and the need to turn their aerial to Rowridge (even though reception of the ITV mux is even worse at the moment). Can you clarify this or offer some advice as i have other customers that cant receive the ITV mux from Hannington.

w hicks: Quite simply because the standards of professionalism has fallen off over the last few years, this coinciding with a new breed of young "trendies" finding their way into positions that really demanded
long term experience rather than modern qualifications to obtain a position, that is as well as who they might know in higher places!

Paul, sounds as though you need a proper aerial. If set top aerials worked, there wouldn't be any work for aerial companies, everybody would buy a set top.
