I would like to know if it is possible to receive UK terrestrial Freeview servic
I am going to be spending some time at my mother's house, in the area near Marquise (between Boulogne and Calais) in France. Another Englishman who lived in the village, said that he had been able to receive UK Freeview there. Also, Freeview on Dover TV transmitter - ukfree.tv - independent digital television and switchover advice, since 2002 appears to show that area of France within transmitter range of the Dover transmitter. I have a PAL / SECAM / NTSC compatible TV.
You can receive both analogue and digital UK terrestrial transmissions in some border areas of France. Radio waves do not respect political boundaries. The best thing to do is to use a 100-element class I CAI-marked aerial (the wideband type) and point it the right direction.
You can use a Freeview box with any TV that has a SCART socket. Digital TV replaces the old analogue PAL, SECAM and NTSC systems.

Hi, thanks for the info below but for Calais (France) do I now need to install a UK freeview box along side my French TNT box and use one or the other because cannot seem to pick up UK channels since no analogue any more and neither through the French TNT box.
Rgds.

David: By all means have a try if you wish, but if you study the coverage area map (by clicking "map" at the right hand side of your posting) you will no doubt see that reception of the Dover transmitter is not shown as being achievable anywhere near to Calais, as reception is only shown as being possible (in theory) from the coastline level with Wissant at the most Northerly point (not seen unless image expanded) and then downwards past Boulogne-sur-Mer, but once again only near to the coastline areas, and so if anyone can receive it in Marquise its purely through good fortune and possibly only because of Marquise being located slightly closer to the coverage area limits compared to Saint-Inglevert let alone Calais.
That said, contrary to the zero coverage seen obviously there will always be little pockets of reception dotted here and there, but I wouldn't invest in any of the more expensive boxes as you could well be wasting your money, as should it be found that reception was possible at any time in Calais then its only likely to be because of freak weather conditions, and as such could disappear as quick as it came.

Hello,
Thanks for your answers.
What a shame !! I have lived in this area since 1966 and 10 miles in land from Calais we have always received perfectly the 4 english channels until analogue dissapeared!!
Vive le modernisme !!

David: Well as I have previously mentioned, by all means try a test as variables always exist, but on the basis of whats seen indicated on the coverage map I wouldn't really recommend paying an over the top price for a box.

Get a freesat dish and decoder and you can get all UK channels throughout most of Northern France (reception in Paris shouldn't be a problem), Belgium and the Netherlands.
