Is there any reason as to why RTE one cannot be viewed in the England over Freeview? In the Republic BBC & ITV has been freely available to all in the south.

Has RTE started transmitting on FREEVIEW(NI)yet. I am 20 miles south of Belfast and am able to receive the new HD channels on my HD freeview box. My signal strength is 10/10 for all other channels.
Many thanks.

I live within a stones throw of the Carmmoney Hill transmitter amd have all the recommended equipment installed to receive the RTE stations which have been declared as available, a clear line of sight to the mast and receive no RTE stations whatsoever.
AS you live some 25 mile from this relay station I find it hard to believe that your reception is coming from the source you believe but more likely the Main Divis Mast, enjoy what you are getting as RTE maintain only 65% of of N'Ireland will be able to receive their programmes and many customers are going to be very unhappy since they have been lead to believe they would.
We have been misguided and let down over the years and never even received Ch5, still paid the same licence fee as others with fewer programmes and here we are again with the same scenario and only getting 10% of the channels available to others, where is the justice.

annette: You must be receiving these from one of the Saorview transmitters in the Republic. You will probably need a Freeview HD receiver (or Saorview receiver) to see the pictures that are broadcast.
The reason for this is that Saorview uses MPEG4 format for the pictures whereas Freeview standard definition pictures are in MPEG2. Hence Freeview standard definition receivers often don't have the capability to show MPEG4 pictures.
As Freeview HD uses MPEG4, those receivers can show MPEG4 pictures and hence will work with Saorview.

Will RTE1 and RTE2 ever be available to view in London.

Mike: Most unlikely, as increasing the number of potential viewers could cause increases in the cost of rights to show some material, plus the problem of rights to sporting events, films and series which have been bought by other broadcasters for showing in the UK preventing the screening of such items by RTE on a UK wide transmission.

I am able to pick up all the RTE transmissions in Portglenone and Ballymoney using a TV STAR T1020 HD, HD Digital Terrestrial Trceiver but cannot pick up any RTE transmissions using this receiver in Ballyclare. I assume the Black Mountain or Divis transmitters use a different system and I am totally confused as to aerial and receiver type required for picking up RTE transmissions. My TV is a Samsung HD Ready model - is this a suitable type or is a Full HD model required?

Alexander Atkinson: Some non-Freeview HD receivers will show Saorview pictures. For the NI Mux, a Freeview HD receiver will DEFINATELY be required.
A "Full HD" TV is one which can show HD resolutions up to 1080p, i.e. the "full" is the highest resolution. It gives no qualification to any ability to receive Freeview HD signals; this is usually indicated by a "Freeview HD" logo (and the specifications will indicate a DVB-T2 tuner in addition to a DVB-T one).
Your TV Star would be expected to receive Saorview and/or the NI Mux (if the signals are available). Confirm that it receives RT in Portglenone and Ballymoney on UHF channel 39 (618MHz) which is Black Mountain.
The reason that it doesn't receive it in Ballyclare could be to do with:
- the fact that the coverage of the Divis main Freeview signals and the NI Mux from Black Mountain aren't exactly the same.
- or perhaps the signal is weaker and/or perhaps the Group A aerial isn't sufficient at that location to bring in C39.
- or if you have a second aerial pointing to one of the transmitters in the Republic and this is connected to the downlead, then this might be the issue.
