Our digital signal for ITV has disappeared in the last week - can you tell me why and what I can do to restore it

Our digital signal for ITV has disappeared in the last week -
published on UK Free TV

Sometimes people experience problems with the ITV/C4 multiplex (and also the one that carries five) because of the different transmission mode that allows more channels to be carried, but reduces the effective signal strength.

Freeview modes

This can sometimes cause problems when the weather changes (due to the inversion effect).

If you rescan for channels on your box and don't get the ITV/C4 services restored, then you may need to get a new Class I aerial to get reception all the time. However, you should check your cables and connections are in good order first.

dave

there is some success with that manual install in that order

50 - BBC
59 - ITV
58 - ITV3
49 - Pick TV
55 - Film4

a couple of the film 4 cluster are lost when the box is turned off. so it looks like the last channels put in are effect

i did the factory first time install with no ariel in again but this time put channel 49 pick tv in last and the same happened some of channel 49 are lost when i turn off

is there another channel i can put in last that will not affect the winter hill channels or lose all the channels from these clusters

50 - BBC
59 - ITV
58 - ITV3
49 - Pick TV
55 - Film4

as they possess the channels i watch mainly

bbc 1, 2, itv 1,2,3,4 dave, film on 4, ch4, ch5, the new movie channel located on 32, ch30,31,33

well done so far though im grateful

regards
dave

dave: The result you have seems to suggest that it is running out of memory and that the last-stored channel is forgotten.

This page lists services by multiplex (those with a bullet in the "E" for England column apply):

DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex

If there is one that you don't use then one possible workaround may be not to have it tuned.

It does seem strange though as the change was only a change of channel (frequency). No new services have been added.

In the first instance I suspected that the issue was that as it was scanning it had added channels from other transmitters (before those of Winter Hill). I thought that perhaps when you tuned it the other day that another signal (from another transmitter) happened to be available at your location that wasn't previously and that was why there was no room to store ITV/C4/C5 (when there was before). But you've ensured that there are no other channels and it still won't store all five channels!

jb38 may be able to offer some other suggestion. He deals with these things professionally and I don't - I'm a technical bod only.

dave: If your receiver only stores 5 multiplexes then it will be impossible to get those 13 channels as they on 6 different multiplexes (which is why Dave showed you that link).

dave: Sorry for not replying to our previous message.

The user manual for your model is here:

http://download.p4c.phili….pdf

Refer to page 11. You need to go to the Channel List where there is an option to delete channels.

The 13 services/channels that you watch are on the following multiplexes:

C50 - PSB1 - BBC One, BBC Two
C59 - PSB2 - ITV, ITV2, Channel 4, Channel 5
C58 - COM4 - ITV3, 5*, 5USA
C49 - COM5 - Dave, Movie Mix
C55 - COM6 - Film4, ITV4

This means that you will need to add all five channels in order to have available the 13 services you wish to view.

dave: Excellent.

I know what you mean about the junk channels. On retuning, I go through and skip them so that they don't appear in the programme guide.
