Sadly, I am unable to offer this personal service at the moment.

Hi
i have an old Amstrad DRX280 which i would like to use for someone else for a freeview box but when i connect the cables from my sky +hd box it displays no signal
There is no signal out put from 1 or 2 inputs does this mean the box is useless

Steve: Could well be! as older Sky boxes such as the DRX280 were notorious for power supply problems caused by leaky / dried out electrolytic capacitors. Try the undermentioned procedure, if all appears then the problem is most likely to be down to a defective power supply. LNB checking procedure: 1: Press Services and select 4" (opens with picture settings highlighted) 2:- Press: "0 - 1 - select" (opens with LNB set up highlighted) press on this. 3:- A list of the various settings will appear, and although they may match up with what's indicated below still press on the red "reset all settings" button (at bottom left hand side under the menu list) 4:- Use the up/down arrows to highlight "Save New Settings" then press select. The correct settings for the LNB are / Low frequency - 9.75 High Frequency - 10.60 The LNB power supply should always be set to on. The 22KHz Command should always be set to on.

MikeP - there is a TV Channel with a confusingly similar name IIRC. Brian's name for this site is almost too well chosen and I'm sure a lot of people who find it think it in some way "official"

The continent is full of people watching UK Satellite TV. Sky acquiesces with this so I see no need to be precious on behalf of copyright holders.

Dimitris you will need a Freesat or a Sky TV box; a suitable LNB on your dish - which you may well have - and to point it in the right direction - instructions online if you google.

But I have no idea if the signal gets to you. The coverage has recently changed so old info may now be wrong.

Try an expats forum for UK people in Greece.

Is it my freeview box or my aerial / cable ??. does anybody else out there keep losing reception through a HUMAX freeview box/recorder. I'm on my second box, contacted Humax and am having to retune box every couple of days especially if weather has been a bit crazy. Had my system checked and apparently I have a bit of noise on my aerial cable, whatever that means ??. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Freeview signal suddenly disappeared - when did re boot and 'update stations' now only have any BBC related channels none of which give anything more than a 10% pic quality, no sign of ITV, Chan 4 even. Any thoughts. Bournemouth, Dorset area

I am having similar problem with Humax box. HD channels don't work (it says weak signal) and when I check the settings it shows 0% on that channel. It was working then periodically stopped, I retuned a couple of times and it worked sometimes but not others, leaving it a few days and it will work for a bit and then stop again.
I have direct line of sight to the Healthfield transmitter with a roof mounted aerial (fairly new), all other channels are close to 100% quality.
Is it the transmitter or the box? The box is less than a year old.

Mark W: If you are located line-of-sight at a distance of say under 10 miles or so from the transmitter then you should be aware of the fact than a signal that's slightly over the top in strength can block HD reception, this sometimes being in an intermittent fashion dependant on weather conditions etc.

Another point to note being, that the signal strength / quality indications (especially latter) cannot be relied on as being in any way accurate when a device is operating under signal overload conditions, as the excessive signal level upsets the measuring circuitry usually resulting in a low, or zero reading.

However, a more accurate assessment is not really possible without a post code (or one from nearby) being known, as this would then enable details of the signal strength expected at your location to be accessed .

Steve: Your closer to Waltham than I am, so you should be getting excellent reception. There is the possibility of a problem with the bax, but if its happening on a second unit, then its more likely to be something else (and you could check by connecting it to someone else aerial, just to see if the box is ok).

Firstly, check that your not tuning into another transmitter. Waltham is on 67 degrees and channel 49, but Belmont is 42 degrees and is on channel 22. My cheap digibox will often pick up Belmont first after a retune, so check that.

The other problem could be your system. I dont know what 'a bit of noise' means, but if you need to retune after bad weather, it sounds like water is in the system, perhaps via a degraded connection or coax cable.

If you can check your box/tv with another system, try it. And if someone has a spare digibox, try it on yours, and look at what the signal is like, and just eliminate the possibilities.

Craig D: A postcode would be really helpful, since you can then check any probablems with the signal path etc (I grew up in Bournemouth, but I dont know the topography of the area that well!).

OK - two possible problems. One is that your set has picked up a transmitter other than Rowridge, so you need to check for that. However, Rowridge is on channel 24, so its normally first in the boxes search, so its unlikely.
Secondly - if you just getting BBC channels, which are normally the strongest, is something wrong with your aerial? If your using a box, check with some elses system, etc.

Hi, I've noticed in this area around Worthing that new aerials 'looking' at Rowridge on the IOW are now vertical. I understand that the transmitter was given a vertical polarisation during the full switchover to digital, but I understood this was only for local use on the island and Soton.
Looking at Rowridge technical data the vertical signal does appear to be the strongest. Is now worth changing my aerial to vertical bearing in mind that Brighton is also that polarisation albeit higher up the band?

Has anyone encountered problems?
