wendy : Or to put it in a nutshell, you would have saved yourself a load of hassle if you had purchased a standard Freesat twin tuner recorder (PVR), these devices being a 100% compatible for use with a dish that was previously used for the reception of sky.
The only point being, if your Sky box was "not" a Sky+ / Sky+HD type? then you will only have one single coax coming from the dish, and although a Freesat recorder can operate with only one lead, it does so in a very limited fashion "as far as recording" is concerned, and so for full operation a second lead would have to be run from the dishes LNB, that is provided the latter is fitted with either a twin or quad LNB.

Channel 4+1 HD & 4Seven HD are supposed to be available on Winter Hill C31 (with more HD things to come in September. However, when I try to retune my HD recorder there is no signal at all on C31. Any idea why not?

E.R.Bryan: What kind of receiver are you using to receive your TV channels? The numbers you mention apply to Sky then Freesat boxes. A generic satellite receiver will not use either of those epg positions. Likewise if you have a Freeview tuner and are able to receive signals from both Crystal Palace (for London) and Sudbury (Anglia) you will usually find London channels in the LCN positions of the channel list and East Anglia channels in the 800s. A tuner that only stores the variations will probably store Anglia at 800 and BBC1 East on 801 in the channel list ( as Anglia is found on C41 from Sudbury, before the BBC channels on C44) If the whole mux is stored the BBC channels will probably appear about 810.

UK Freeview signls are not available in Munich. It is far too far away from an UK transmitter for the signals to travel that far. Even many parts of Northern France are unable to get UK Freeview signals.
The only possible option may be to try a large dish aimed at the satellites positioned at 28 degrees East and tuning to the Freesat signals. The dish needed will be much larger that that used anywhere in the UK.
The other possible option is to use the 'catch up' services such as the BBC iPlayer or similar via the internet.

Briantist: Brian, how do I stop the twitter mentions whenever someone else posts in a thread? There's no user profile page to adjust this on your site.

I live in Bristol and I cannot receive any of the Bristol local broadcasting channels. All that I receive in terms of local broadcasting are the Cardiff channels. This cannot be avoided as my box does not have a manual tune function. Can anyone tell me why I can receive the Cardiff channels and not the ones for the town that I actually live in.

SomeGuyFromBristol: Does your aerial point to Wenvoe, due to local topography blocking the signal path to Mendip and KWH, or do you receive both sets of signals? If the latter is the case your tuner will put the West region services in the 800s of the channel list, simply because they are on a higher frequency so are found later in the scan. It is a fact though, that in many parts of the country it is simply not possible to receive the correct regional TV services, and sometimes radio services too, due to intervening hills blocking the signal path.
