The problem could be one of:

- the aerial has been moved or damaged;

- the cables or connectors that connect the digibox to the aerial are damaged;

- the digibox has broken.

If you have a "spare" digibox you use this to test the aerial connection. Can you still watch analogue TV OK?

David Carter: According to R + T Investigations, no, Sutton is fine.

If there is not signal, then it sounds like your aerial has a problem (loads of this at the moment). Start with the aerial lead - is it connected properly, and work from there.

Last question!
If I have a new aerial placed in the loft, can I use the existing co-axial cable to join up with the old amplifiers/boosters? If not then I would have to take up carpets, underlay and floorboards to place new cable which will be a nightmare!
Many thanks for previous replies.

michele: If the cable works OK, then why not? Of course if the cable doesnt work...

Have a look at Aerials, TV Aerial and Digital Aerial for advice on putting the aerial in the loft.

michele: In addition to that said by MikeB. It all depends on where the "existing" coaxial cable referred to is coming from / going to? because if you are meaning to intercept the coax cable coming down from one of your two chimney mounted aerials, then yes.

As far as the aerial in the loft is concerned, have any tests been carried out on the loft aerial to make sure that it can actually receive a signal when mounted in that position?, a small portable Freeview TV being temporarily installed in the loft being ideal for this purpose, the cable from the TV's aerial socket being coupled directly into the aerial before carrying out an auto-tune on the set.

It would though be advantageous if the TV in question had the programmes already stored in its memory, basically by it having already been installed elsewhere and with no attempts having been made to retune it.

During a thunderstorm last night I lost all terrestrial TV signal and the problem still exists. I don't know which transmitter I am tuned to but the roof mounted aerial is pointing roughly South-East towards Hull. Is there a local transmitter problem or should I look closer to home? The aerial appears to be undamaged and doesn't seem to have moved.

anna kril: Check which transmitter your actually tuned to. Most of the problems people have said about is becuase their equipment has found the wrong transmitter.

In the case of a digibox, the standard Goodmans/Bush etc box does not manually tune (I know, it took three attempts to get 'my' transmitter), and its probably picking up the lowest RF Channel it can find. In your case, I suspect its Moeil Y parc or the Wrekin, because it found them first.

On 3rd September I did a rescan on my tv, as requested by an on screen message. Since doing this my previously brilliant tv will not hold the electronic program information. Every time the tv is turned off we have to re scan again. Can anyone help with a reason/remedy for this very annoying problem
