I live in Swansea just a couple of miles from the Kilvey hill transmitter. I have retuned my receiver but sometimes on channel 8 freeview I get the 'Made in Cardiff' channel with no signal detected and other times I get Swansea Bay TV. I have tried updating and reinstalling channel lists.

Alan Whittaker: Hi, alan. Bay TV Swansea is only transmitted from the Kilvey Hill transmitter at present and so if you do not get your tv signals from that transmitter you will not be able to receive it. If you do use Kilvey Hill, Bay TV should be on Channel 8, but if it's not coming up, you need to do a couple of retunes to bring it up. Firstly, carry out a retune with the aerial DISCONNECTED. This is so your tv can FORGET its previous setup. It should come back with a message, 'No channels found', or something similar. Then reconnect the aerial lead and retune again. This time, all available channels including Bay TV Swansea will be found. For Bay TV, simply switch to Channel 8. Hope this helps, Richard, Norwich.

Richard Cooper: I have tried what you said and it doesn't make any difference. As a last resort I reset my receiver to the factory settings and had to scan for all channels again. I still get the same problem. Freeview channel 8 sometimes shows ' Made in Cardiff ' with 'no signal detected' (I cannot receive a signal from Wenvoe) and the EPG shows the programmes for this channel. Other times it will change to Bay TV Swansea on the same channel with the signal coming from Kilvey Hill. This seems to be a problem with the transmission.

John Preece: Hi again, Jon. I am sorry that you are experiencing difficulties with the reception of local tv transmissions in South Wales and now that you have eliminated your own receiving installation from the equation, I would suggest you now report the issue either to the BBC via their 'contact us' web page - search on the BBC website for this, or alternatively phone the transmission company Arqiva, tomorrow morning on 01962 823434. Richard, Norwich. PS Whichever of the two you decide to contact, explain everything you've done and please do make sure they get to know the final outcomes of your receiving 'Made in Cardiff' interspersed with 'Bay TV Swansea'.

J Preece: Made in Cardiff (8) is only broadcast from the Wenvoe LCF transmitter on C51 /714mhz, whereas Bay TV Swansea (8) is transmitted from Kilvey Hills local mux on C30 / 546.0Mhz, albeit information on this TX is nearly non existent.

You should try carrying out a manual tune on C30 / 546.0Mhz and see what comes up, if nothing, try it again but pause after you have entered the mux channel number (do "not" press search or scan) as your TV's tuner acts like a signal meter in this mode indicating the slightest trace of a signal, whereas it's passed by if search or scan is pressed.

J Preece: on those occasions that you discover Made in Cardiff stored at position 8 in the epg the tuner has detected a weak signal coming from Wenvoe which is unfortunately not strong enough to decode for reliable viewing. When Made in Cardiff has been stored in position 8 it is likely that Bay TV will be found in the 800s of the channel list if that signal was also detected during the scan. This is normal procedure when two or more services that are allotted the same logical channel number (epg slot) are found when scanning for channels. The digital UK postcode checker shows reception of Made in Cardiff to be possible in some areas of Swansea, assuming that a suitable aerial for reception of that service is connected to the receiver. Predictions for reception of Bay TV from Kilvey Hill have not yet appeared in the published data.

I am just about 4 miles from Kilvey hill transmitter and have had no problems retuning to get Bay TV Swansea, both on normal aerial and indoor aerial.
My gripe is I can't find any idea of the programme schedule on line or on their website.

David Hill: Hi, David. Does this mean that their programme schedule is not appearing on the electronic programme guide (epg) on your television screen, which presumably appears for other Freeview tv channels on your tv screen? Richard, Norwich.

Dai Tubes: Good afternoon, Dai. Bay TV Swansea has the demographic of the people of Swansea who mainly use the Kilvey Hill television transmitter in Swansea. As David Hill posted, "I am just about 4 miles from Kilvey hill transmitter and have had no problems retuning to get Bay TV Swansea, both on normal aerial and indoor aerial." It's a pity about the difficulty with the electronic programme guide, which I am sure Bay TV Swansea is working hard to resolve. Richard, Norwich.
