Cathy Bowen:

To answer your question we need to know where you live by giving a post code so we can check which transmitter you might be using and whether you are within the reception patter for the local multiplex that might carry the service - not all transmitters carry it and not all areas served from any such can receive the signal.

Hi folks, any idea if Durris Transmitter will get 11A? The channels it broadcasts seem to stop at the Angus transmitter, just wondering if they will get any farther north. Missing Planet Rock on my DAB.

Doug Ferguson: Sound Digital haven't announced any plans to expand their coverage and it seems doubtful that they will do any time soon. Their business model is based on providing national coverage at a much lower cost than Digital One, which they achieve by only have 45 transmitters which cover most major areas of population.

Doug Ferguson: Plug a Chromecast audio into the input of a radio, etc, and you can easily stream from your phone - 20 at the moment. Or if the radio has bluetooth, just use that.

Thanks for this added feature.

Please note that now that High Hunsley is broadcasting the Humberside local mux (10D), the Licolnshire local mux (12A) and SDL National (11A) that the number of DAB/DAB+ stations that we can receive on the East Yorkshire Coast within the YO15/YO16 postcodes has increased to 58 stations.

The SDL National stations come at 75-90% signal strength and the two local muxes are 100% as rated on my Pure Evoke Flow within our home, apart from next to the metal lined chimney for the central heating boiler. Good reception also on our Roberts Play and on the JVC car radio.

I have a dab reception problem with 11d (d1 national) I get 4bars and it is just disturbance within 5 miles and 11a (sdl national) there's completely no signal anywhere within 30 miles of beeston east of england I recommend a transmitter with 11d d1 national and 11a Sdl national in the middle of the no signal problem area and that's litcham a second 11a sdl national transceiver in norwich and a third 11a sdl national and 10b norfolk transceiver or you could make a transmitter with these stations heart extra capital extra kiss kisstory bfbs and just put it at dereham beeston or litcham if you want but I prefer a transmitter within a mile of here because I go quite a large area of the transmitters radius anyways good luck with making dab radio possible to listen to

I have read Aidan Drury's post about DAB reception in and around King's Lynn.

I have just looked up DAB transmitters that serve King's Lynn in the new Radio Listener's Guide 2017 (www.radioguide.co.uk) and I see that there is a 0.600 kW transmitter for BBC National (12B) for King's Lynn, a 0.030 kW transmitter in West Lynn for Digital 1 (11D) but no transmitter for Digital 2/SDL National (11A).

The reason for these differences of these national DAB multiplexes is that the BBC has to cover up to around 98% of the UK population due to its Charter and the fact that we nearly all pay a TV Licence Fee. On the other hand commercial radio is a business and therefore has to pay its way. Therefore stations on Digital 1 are paying for around 160 transmitters to reach around 90% of the UK population and the stations on Digital 2/SDL National have made the business decision to cover 75% of the population from just 45 transmitters at a much lower cost.

The commercial radio and listener-supported radio stations on these two multiplexes have to balance their books so they have to make decisions that enable them to run their operations by either being on Digital 1 or Digital 2.

My tip is that when I move house I take a radio with me to check the reception.

I understand I want to be able to listen to kisstory and heat on sdl national and kiss heart and capital on d1 national is it possible to make a transceiver because I can pick them up and they make like solid disturbance on d1 national and nothing on sdl national maybe 1 or 2 bars but you hear nothing and you can go a long way until you get a signal good enough to listen to I am gonna drop what I want to a d1national and sdl national transceiver at litcham or dereham and it should cover 95% of the area I have ever been to but you might need more sdl national at Norwich and kings Lynn but fm does not have the channels I want so I got a dab radio thinking it would be easy but I got 0 channels even now I only get 16 anyways I attempted putting a tape measure a meter extended and it does not do very much maybe one bar more anyways thanks for your help

I like to listen to Radio 5 when driving around East Devon. Last Summer the signal became very weak and I read that engineering work on the Stockland Hill transmitter would mean a reduced signal strength until 19 December 2016. Now, on 21 December 2016 the signal is as bad as ever and I see that there are no current engineering works on the transmitter.
So is this signal level what I can expect for the future? I have tried both 693 & 909Mhz without any improvement.
