To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Had issues with our local transmitters yesterday. Postcode is BN14FE All HD channels were off for several hours.
When they returned, the audio is out of sync in all HD channels.
I have performed an auto scan, manual scan, factory reset (samsung tv) and retune with aeriel out. Another retune with aerial in. Problem persists. HD channels only, sd channels are audio synced.
I have a osundbar, but have checked tv speakers and problem exists on tv and soundbar.

Any help appreciated.

Bill Kocher & Mez: As your channels are already correctly tuned, retuning will not fix any problem like this. There was a fault affecting HD channels at Whitehawk Hill (and relays such as Brighton Central) yesterday morning, so this is likely to be related, especially as it is being reported to affect multiple viewers (I've seen reports of a similar problem in the same area on another website).

Macclesfield

Freeview reception at my address in Macclesfield has always been poor. I receive 20 TV channels and 10 radio channels despite having done the rescan as described above. I have two television sets and a DVR, all of which receive the same small group of Freeview channels.

I once did a rescan on the main TV and lots of new channels came up. However, when I tried to watch any of these new channels, no sound or picture appeared.

I know my aerial is pointed at a smaller (relay?) transmitter rather than at the main transmitter for the area.

My postcode is SK10 2EH

Thanks SO. Looks like we'll just have to wait for the engineers to 'undo' their changes that have caused this.

I do have Virgin TV were everything is fine, but like to swap between BBC1HD and BBCSE in the morning to see the sometimes 3 minutes of local news in SD. I don't want to watch BBC Breakfast in SD just for 3-5 mins every half hour. Not now I have got a 4Ktv which is great in HD, but SD is awful.

Hi.
I recently changed over from sky to BT TV. On setting up last Saturday I had all channels present since Wednesday I have lost all Ariel channels. I still have my subscription channels available. I'm aware that the transmitter has gone or is going through a update our local paper says try retuning after 28 2. 2018 . But just reading above it says there is no work being carried out. I'm at a loss as we still can not get free view channels back via BT you view box . Any ideas

Paul Lewis: Check the transmitter - if its page says its fine, its probably your aerial system. The TV is telling you its getting no signal, so check it, starting with the connection between the box and the wall.

Gordon: Unless you managed to retune during engineering work (we don't know which transmitter you're using) then you most likely have a problem with your aerial system if you are loosing channels.
