To deal with the problem you must clear the channel list completely and then rescan - if your box has it in the menus, please the 'installation menu' to do an initial scan or a reset to factory settings or First Time Installation. You MUST delete the entire existing list of channels. On most boxes this technique can be also be used:

Try this:

1) unplug your Freeview box (or idTV) from the mains;

2) unplug the aerial from the Freeview box by disconnecting the cable from the 'RF in' socket;

3) wait 30 seconds;

4) plug Freeview box (or idTV) mains back in;

5) do a complete scan for channels - it will fail without the aerial. (This may be in the installation or initialization menu, and is distinct from any 'add channels option'). Once this is done your channel line up should be empty;

6) reinsert aerial by reconnecting to the 'RF in' connection;

7) do a complete scan for channels again.

The Freeview channel line-up provided by six "multiplexes" - each of which carry five or more TV channels, radio channels, text services and EPG data. In this diagram each ROW represents a multiplex. If you are still missing a whole multiplex (ie everything on the row) you may need to replace your aerial with a wideband type, purchase a larger aerial or you may have interference from a VCR, games console, Sky Digibox or similar.

Hello! My name is Jadwiga and I'm in Kington Herefordshire. We have had no signal for two days, & I have a dvd recording machine linked to the TV so that I can tape and watch a different programme if desired. The signal was breaking up a few days ago then nothing. But....here's my question, the dvd recording device would always work for DVD's despite no TV signal. This morning it suddenly 'died' on me. There's no power to it but TV still comes on (without a signal). Are they both linked to such a degree? The main TV ariel is fed directly into the dvd device which worries me. If it is atmospheric, when the signal comes back and if my device is broken, will I not get any TV at all?

Reception from Sutton Coldfield is usually good here in north Oxon though COM78 can be iffy as it's low power (why can't we have all channels on high power?!). There have been some problems over the past few days but tonight is almost a Freeview wipeout! I see there are "unusual" weather conditions but that sounds like the wrong kind of snow. I'm getting high signal strength - over 90 (100 is max) according to my TV when the signal does get through but it keeps slamming to 0 as the error level shoots up :( The only other time this normally happens is when a plane gets in the way so it is short-lived, tonight (new year's eve) is horrendous! :(

Richard:

We need a full postcode to look at the predicted reception at your location. I notice that in the past you have also talked about reception from Oxford. What sort of aerial setup have you got?

The tropospheric ducting that we've had in recent days has been unusually strong for the time of year. It is slowly subsiding and you should see an improvement as the night wears on. You may have noticed that the weather has also been unusually warm!
As I'm sure you can appreciate, the broadcast frequencies have to be "shared", not only with transmitters elsewhere in the UK, but Europe & the rest of the globe, as they always have been. If everyone just increased their power, then the mutual interference would be a lot worse at times like this, but also at times of more marginal ducting.

Unless we can suggest some improvements to your reception, it's a case of grin and bear it unfortunately.

Hello, it sounds like you DVD recorder has a power-supply fault.
If the aerial goes into the DVD, and there is one coming out from it to the TV,
you could just disconnect both from the DVD, and links them together
to get your set working.

I think plugging the aerial directly into the TV would be the best thing to try first, I should have spotted that! But if it's an old analogue TV relying on the digital tuner in the DVD recorder, then you may have to buy a new Set Top Box or DVD recorder, or splash out on a new TV.

I live on Lustrells vale, Saltdean and have no freeview as stated on the freeview website postcode checker yet your map says I am covered by a strong signal. That is incorrect. I receive the normal bbc, itv etc but no Dave, pick, yesterday etc. I. Fact I have a total of 15 digital tv channels.

Callum poklington:

Did you put your house number into the checker with your postcode? For a random selection I did, the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker gave reception for all of them, however it can also depend which end of the road you are as to which transmitter you might get.

Most are showing Saltdean as the "Most likely", but this is a "Light" transmitter and only transmits the 3 PSB multiplexes, PSB1/BBCA, PSB2/D3&4, PSB3/BBCB HD. If you don't have an HD -T2 tuner in your set, then 15 TV channels is correct (+Ch.100 & the Radio channels), and it is a strong signal for these.
A strong signal does not imply you're going to get all 6 multiplexes!

If you are further up or at the top of the Road, then Whitehawk Hill is sometimes the "Most Likely" which transmits the 6 main multiplexes, but reception from some might be "variable". What is slightly surprising is that some at the bottom of the road are also getting reception from Whitehawk Hill looking at which way the aerials are pointing.
So it looks like it depends on exactly where you are and I suspect how good your aerial rigger is.

Hi, I am in the Teesside area and i have my aerial directed to Bilsdale because I seem to get better reception from that than Pontop Pyke.
After the recent retune, i am unable to get the channels which are on channels 55 and 56 - which includes some HD channels. This is on 3 different pieces of equipment with numerous retunes, so it's not an equipment issue.
Has Bilsdale ceased transmitting freeview on these 2 channels?
