Charles: Mux1 will be replaced by Mux BBCA on a different frequency (C43) and MuxA will change frequency (to C41+ which Mux1 will have vacated.) This will occur in the early hours of 7th September 2011. Unless your Freeview recorder automatically re-tunes at switchover, it will therefore be a waste of time setting timer recordings for Mux1 or MuxA channels after 6th September. Note too that all muxes might be off the air prior to 6am on 7th September.

Tess Alison: "BBC2 off air DSO related from 00:20 today to 05:33 today" from BBC engineering, posted on the Rowridge transmitter page. It would appear that work is taking place to test the high power digital transmitters at Rowridge, which will use the same frequencies after switchover as analogue BBC2, ITV1 and Channel 4 use currently. BBC1 remains on air as it uses a frequency not used for TV, at least initially, after switchover.

Phil Clarke: If the problem is being caused by the use of a group A aerial - (does it have a red stopper at the end of the boom?)-then yes a wideband, or a group K, would give improved reception of the COM muxes. However if the problem is interference, possibly from Emley Moor which is using this frequency until 7th September 2011. It should be noted that the COM muxes from Chesterfield are currently being transmitted at reduced power. The Digital UK postcode checker shows reception improving in September when Emley Moor stops using the same frequencies as Chesterfield and again on 12th October 2011 when power is raised on the COM muxes to 400W

Phil Clarke: Typo, should say: However if the problem is interference.......then a replacement aerial might not make any difference.

Arqiva statement on Belmont and Olivers Mount
Thursday 25 August 2011 5:17PM

Alan Thorn: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you should still have good reception from Belmont on the PSB muxes and Mux SDN. You will have to wait until 23rd September 2011 for a power increase on Mux ArqA and Mux ArqB before they are available. If you are not receiving any channels at all from Belmont (with none in the 800s of the channel list either) check if your receiver is on the list of equipment that does not support the 8k mode. Also if you are using a booster the signal might now be too strong. In that case try turning the amplification down, or connect the aerial direct to the receiver with no booster in line.

Kevin Mitchelson: Check that you have tuned to signals from Tacolneston on all muxes. It is possible that signals from Sudbury or Rouncefall have been received and the mix of 2k and 8k channels is confusing the EPG. Are there any channels in the 800s of the channel list which give EPG information?

s.black: A tall building standing in the signal path can certainly cause reception problems. There are one or two things to check first before calling out a tv aerial installer. The Digital UK postcode checker predicts Freeview reception to be possible from two transmitters. To the North at 10 degrees from your location is Hannington, to the South is Rowridge. Check that your receiver is tuned to the correct frequencies for the transmitter that the aerial is pointing towards. Hannington has Mux2 on C43+ and MuxC on C44+. For Rowridge Mux2 is C32+ and MuxC is C37. Check that all cables and connectors are in order, also that no nearby equipment such as a Sky box or VCR has the RF modulator set to a frequency that would block Mux2. It is always worth disconnecting any leads (except the aerial, of course) that may be attached to the TV before doing a reception check. If it turns out that the new building IS blocking the signal path you will need the aerial re-positioning or possibly directing to the alternative transmitter.

Andrew: Have you tried putting your postcode into the Digital UK postcode checker to see if you are predicted to receive the COM muxes from Wenvoe, or possibly Mendip after the power is eventually increased? With regard to the TV license, this has to be paid whenever a TV is capable of receiving even one channel. As it pays for the BBC you are able to receive all the BBC channels on PSB1 and PSB3.

Chris: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts that you can receive a full Freeview service from Lancaster, using a group A aerial mounted for vertical polarisation and pointing South at 185 degrees. Most viewers would agree with you regarding "+1" channels, the broadcasters however see a second transmission of their main channel as being more attractive to advertisers.

JMH: Yes. Mux2 (ITV1/2 etc) changes to Mux D3+4 at high power on 31st August 2011. A little longer though for QVC, as Mux SDN switches to high power working on 12th October 2011.
