christine: In order to answer this question it is necessary to have more information, preferably a postcode or other indication of your location so that a check can be made of the predicted reception for your area. Also what type of receiver and aerial is in use.

ITV 3
Wednesday 17 October 2012 6:01PM

Pam hinton: If you have an ITV3 in the channel list which does not give a picture when selected it is possible that mux SDN from either Waltham on C29 or Tacolneston on C42 was picked up and the channels stored instead of the correct Sandy Heath transmission on C51. If this is the case , try to do a manual tune on C51 to restore the correct version of SDN to your receiver. You might need to clear the channel list first, before manually inserting the full set of Sandy Heath frequencies to restore a working channel list.

DAB local radio gaps | Digital radio
Wednesday 17 October 2012 6:20PM

George Buchanan: There are plans for local radio multiplexes to cover the unserved parts of Scotland. As Radio Scotland is an established FM service which matches the coverage of the other BBC national stations it would be odd if the local multiplexes did not match the coverage of the BBC national multiplex if the planned FM switch off is to apply to BBC Scotland. There are going to be some heavily subsidised transmitters in the North and West of Scotland!

DAB local radio gaps | Digital radio
Wednesday 17 October 2012 6:37PM

Maurice: BBC Scotland has regional opt outs on FM, so could not be carried on a national multiplex if it is to continue providing the same level of service. Regarding the commercial multiplex, as there is a different frequency used in Scotland, Digital One could have been ordered to carry a version of BBC Scotland, but there is then the question of extending the coverage to the unserved parts, Ofcom already having decided that Digital One need only serve those areas currently within the (intended) range of the Classic FM transmitter network. There is no provision for subsidising any expansion of Digital One.

Mrs Susan Ring: There are a number of subscription channels, such as Gold, Sky Sports and various adult channels plus Top up TV streams which your receiver might list in the channel list when doing a scan for channels. However it is impossible to view these channels without taking out a subscription and also using a suitable receiver such as a BT vision box or one which supports Top up TV which is able to unscramble the signal. Most Freeview boxes are unable to display these channels even if you wanted them, so don't worry, you can't be charged for having the channel name in the channel list! With regard to the adult channels, they have now changed position in the channel list to distance them from the general entertainment and shopping channels. It was probably this change that flashed up on your TV screen. If you are really bothered about them it is possible on some receivers to delete them, or make them subject to a 'child lock' but otherwise just ignore them.

Film 4
Thursday 18 October 2012 10:39PM

Mike: I am guessing that your aerial is most likely pointing to Huntshaw Cross, in which case Mux ArqB which carries Film4/ITV4 is on C56+ If these channels are listed in the channel list, but do not give any reception when selected, it is possible that the mux from another transmitter (possibly Caradon Hill on C27-) was stored when scanning for channels, but the signal is below the reception threshold. If this is the case, or the mux was simply overlooked when scanning do a manual tune on C56. It might be necessary to clear the channel list completely by doing a factory reset, then manually tune the full set of frequencies for Huntshaw Cross (or whichever transmitter you are using) to give a full set of working channels.

nick davis: No is the short answer to your question. You are however predicted to be able to receive the full Freeview service with good reception from Emley Moor, subject to there being no local obstructions, such as trees or tall buildings, blocking the signal path. Use a group B aerial set for horizontal polarisation for reception of Emley Moor. There are no current plans to add the COM muxes to relay transmitters as it would double the transmission cost whilst only serving an additional 8% of the population.

Declan McGrath: Local TV is planned to be on channel 45 in Wales, unless the regulator orders a change to this.

Mark Plant: Firstly you need to check that the receiver has actually tuned to Winter Hill for the BBC mux. It should show C62on the information screen. If there is another frequency shown, C45 being the most likely incorrect option, you will need to delete the BBC channels and do a manual tune on C62, or do a factory reset to completely clear the channel list and manually insert all the Winter Hill frequencies. If however the correct frequency is currently tuned in there is a possibility that the signal is too strong, or you have interference on C62. Too strong a signal will require an attenuator to be inserted in the aerial feed. Also try repositioning the connecting leads relative to the TV, as sometimes interaction takes place between HDMI and/or aerial fly leads and the TV tuner.

Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter
Friday 19 October 2012 11:20PM

Charlie: Channel 8 in England and Northern Ireland is allocated to local tv stations, which are not yet in service. In Scotland BBC Alba is transmitted in that slot and transmissions from Wales put Channel 4 on position 8, with S4C occupying the fourth position in the channel list.
