Dave Lindsay: Good point Dave! I missed that as Clermont Carn is unusual in that respect for a main station.

Geoff: The Technika 22-228 is listed as an "HD ready" TV, so will only have a standard definition DVB-T MPEG2 tuner. Saorview transmissions are MPEG4, which will deliver sound but no picture on your TV. You will need a receiver capable of supporting MPEG4 transmissions, such as a BT vision box, Saorview box or Freeview HD box to resolve this problem.

Mark: A look at the history of some of the transmitter sites explains why some of them came to be positioned where they are. The Limavady mast dates from the 1950s when it was built as a link station to receive the Divis signal and then feed the Londonderry relay. A low power relay at Maddybenny More used to supply 405 line BBC TV and BBC FM radio to Coleraine. The BBC FM services were transfered to Limavady in 1986, since then a local commercial FM transmitter brought the Maddybenny mast back into use and a BBC national DAB transmitter has been added. The ITA built the Black Mountain and Strabane masts to serve nearly all of Ulster with 405 line ITV. However it was not possible to serve the same area at UHF from Strabane as had been achieved at VHF, hence the use of several existing BBC masts (Limavady, Londonderry and Brougher Mountain) to serve the area.

Jill Harmer: Check that the tuner has stored the BBC channels from Huntshaw Cross on C62- rather than one of the other transmitters which could be available at your location, Stockland Hill being the most likely on C26+ as this signal arrives from directly behind the aerial. If the tuning is correct try moving the cables slightly which connect to your receiver in case there is any interaction with the tuner.

Mike: Most unlikely, as increasing the number of potential viewers could cause increases in the cost of rights to show some material, plus the problem of rights to sporting events, films and series which have been bought by other broadcasters for showing in the UK preventing the screening of such items by RTE on a UK wide transmission.

Melonie Joseph: If you need to change the frequency of the RF modulator in your video player, depending on how old it is. On old equipment there will probably be a screw accessed by a small hole in the rear or base of the video player which can be adjusted over a (short) range of UHF channels, possibly only offering C34 to C44 for example. On more recent equipment you need to go into the menu and look for "settings" or "set up" where you should find an option to change the RF frequency to any spare channel from C21 to C69.

gary: Try to do a manual tune on C24, the HD frequency from Divis. Select DVB-T2 if a choice is indicated.

Martyn: The Derby relay, which is transmitted from a mast in Littleover village, is intended to serve viewers living in the Allestree/ Chester Green/Chaddesden/ Oakwood areas with their aerial pointing towards Sutton Coldfield. If your receiver has stored Sutton Coldfield frequencies in the "normal" positions in the channel list the East Midland variations will appear in the 800s on most receivers, if there is a signal present from the Derby relay. To place the East Midlands in preferred positions in the channel list you will need to do a manual tune of the Derby frequencies (C48 and C51), after first clearing the channel list, then add the Sutton Coldfield COM frequencies C39, C42 and C45.

D Bond: No is the short answer. When the COM mus owners were asked if they wished to add the services to any additional sites after DSO they declined on the grounds that the small percentage of extra viewers served would not justify the extra cost of extending the service. It is worth noting that right from the start of Freeview it was not intended to ever add the service to Stanton Moor, for example, if additional frequencies had become available.
