Are you able to receive the COMs 4/5 & 6 multiplexes from Kilvey Hill, or could you get them before the retune event?
See Channel listings | Freeview for the channels on those multiplexes if you aren't sure.
The strange thing is that you are 2km from the Pontardawe transmitter which is line-of-sight but there's no predicted coverage from it according to DigitalUK !! But it's not radiating much signal in your direction, and it was off-air briefly this morning.
I'm wondering if when you retuned, you ended up tuned to the wrong UHF channels which won't help.
You need to enter your TV's tuning section and see which UHF channels you are actually tuned to.
For Kilvey Hill it's 21, 24, 27, for the PSB1/BBCA, PSB2/D3&4, PSB3/BBCB HD multiplexes and 25, 22, & 28 for the COMs 4,5 & 6 multiplexes.
For Pontardawe its 33, 36, 48 only as it doesn't have the COM muxes.
(Note aerial rods should be vertical for these two transmitters).
Kilvey Hill will give you the best choice for the Welsh region IF you can get the COM muxes. Otherwise predicted reception from Carmel is better (for the Welsh region) for the 3 PSB muxes (although the aerial rods need to be horizontal). You probably wouldn't get the COMs from Carmel because of interference from Pontardawe which uses the same UHF channels !!
It may pay you to get someone who is very familiar with reception in your area to look at you aerial installation to see which transmitter may give you the most stable reception.
Otherwise the other possible option is to consider going Freesat - a lot of modern TVs have built-in Sat tuners so you only need a Dish and LNB.

I can vouch for the fact that MikeP is correct about frequency dependant impedances (and hence attenuation) from poor/broken connections in coax and flyleads based on my experience ;) Unless you've seen some of the "weird" effects it can have, you might not believe it!

That's a good point. Also if you haven't got yours set to auto retune if there's any channel changes, you can often delete individual channels in a Channel manager, and they won't re-appear until you do a tune when you could just delete them again.

As Mike says, need a full postcode as there are patches around Basildon that the signal from Crystal Palace doesn't get to, or could be very weak due to the terrain/hills in the way etc.

I'm afraid me and several other regular contributors have noticed the lack of DAB coverage maps for some transmitters. This might be due to lack of data, but whichever, only the site owner can update the information and there lots of other details that need updating, so if/when it'll happen is anyone's guess I'm afraid.

Without knowing which transmitter you are receiving, a full postcode would be needed to help with that, no-one can offer any advice other than perhaps have a look at coax connector connections (unplug and re-plug them in, check for corrosion etc.), and make sure your aerial is ok and coax ok, then perhaps check your tuning and consider a reset (retune with aerial unplugged) and then plug it back in and retune again.

There is a retune event tomorrow (the 16th), the transmitter will go off-air sometime after midnight tonight and may not come on again until around 6 a.m on the new UHF channels.
I suggest you unplug the aerial and do an automatic retune to clear all previous tuning. If you did that earlier as advised and a retune after you plugged it back in gave the current tuning, I'd suggest a manual tune after you've cleared the current tuning. Click on that R's digitaluk trade link at the bottom of your post to see the new channels for Whitehawk Hill, they will be 48, 35, 36 (HD), 32, 34, 33.

Glad you have solved your problem. From my experience with these "pre-fabricated" fly-leads, they can often develop a break on the centre core where they enter the back of the plug. I've never discovered whether it's just a poor method of connection or the wire physically breaking, I've just binned them!
