PG:

As you probably know, there are 2 retune events at Winter Hill, one on the 20th Feb., the multiplexes moving then are PSB1/BBCA and COM8. But also note that PSB1/BBCA will start broadcasting on its new channel UHF C32 on the 19th Feb., the day before. The simulcast of the old channel UHF C50 will continue until the final retune on 22nd April, this will give time for those that need an aerial change, to get that done before the final retune.

On 22nd April PSB2 &3 and COMs4&5 & the GI mux move. COM4/SDN moves to UHF29 as you've mentioned. BUT at Ladder Hill the PSB3/BBCB HD mux is also supposedly moving from C29 to C30, so there should not be any clash. For some reason that Ladder Hill change isn't listed in Clearance documents, but it is on the Predicted Reception pages and the associated Granada region page!

Some documentation is showing that the PSB3/BBCB HD mux is moving from C29 to C30 on the retune date of 22nd April 2020. (Winter Hill SDN mux moves to C29 on that date.).

Oh here we go, your condescending know it all attitude again. And I don't see anyone else disagree with what I've posted about Quenington either!
You started by making the assumption that I didn't know the geography of the area - WRONG.
It may be a few years since I frequented the area quite a lot, but I'm well aware of how varied the terrain is.
There's also pockets of reception from Mendip further to the NE, so "too far from Mendip" isn't always the case.

The Freeview Detailed Coverage checker is NOT based ONLY on estimates. It is based on data gathered over many years on UHF reception around the country, as well as a significant number of measurements that were done prior to DSO, but of course there are some estimates and terrain mapping involved in giving the coverage it does.

As neither of us are there on site, and I have no plans to be there in the near future, we can't say what the reception actually is. What I will say categorically is, if Chas Turner lives anywhere near the river there, I'd be surprised if there is a cat in hell's chance of getting reception from Oxford or Mendip. I don't think Hannington is even a starter, but stranger things have happened.
If he lived near the river, my suggestion would be to go for Freesat and if you get any Freeview signal keep it as backup unless you happen to be very lucky and it's a reliable signal.

MikeP, if your initial response had been along the lines of "I doubt he'd get any reception from Mendip, I know the area quite well and it's very hilly" then I wouldn't have even responded. But no, you had to be contradictory and argumentative. This isn't even just a matter of opinion, it's fact.
I think you are the one that needs to "get a life" if you have nothing better to do than come here and contradict rather than try helping someone with some useful information EVEN IF it's a qualified comment about guesswork.

Tony:

There doesn't seem to be any reports of transmitter problems either by the BBC or Freeview and there's no Planned Maintenance listed. Has the channel returned now? It was several hours ago and I'm wondering if it was just a fault with that particular channel as you say all others are ok.

When you say all other channels are OK, I assume you mean all those on the same (COM8) multiplex. That is the SD channels 55, 64, 69, 83, 89, 96 & HD channels 106, 111, 114, 205 see Channel listings | Freeview

I note that reception of all the COM (4-8) multiplexes at your location could be poor. How do find reception normally?
Was there anything you may have done before the loss, ie. have you retuned recently?
If you are still having problems, please post back with any more detail that you can.

Jules:

The channels are on two different multiplexes. 5Star is on the SDN/COM4 multiplex and 5Star+1 in on the COM8 multiplex. See Channel listings | Freeview
The COMs 7&8 mutliplexes are generally at somewhat lower power than the other COM multiplexes and even those are lower power than the PSBs on some transmitters.

It's quite likely that your reception of the COMs7&8 multiplexes may be a bit marginal compared to the PSBs & COMs4-6, but without a full postcode it's not possible to confirm that as the Freeview Detailed Coverage Checker doesn't work on locations or partial postcodes.

It's not obvious to find! Go to Freeview | All your favourite TV shows, all in one place and all for free & scroll down a bit to "Check Freeview at my home" Enter postcode and house name/number. Scroll down past all the Logos/Icons for channels (about 3/4 down page) and click on "Detailed view" button.
Look at entries for your chosen transmitter. Hovering over channel numbers will give a pop-up with additional information.

Andy Mullins:

You may be in a location where you can receive more than one transmitter. Is that signal strength figure the same for each of the UHF channels the box is tuned to? If so, post back with a full postcode so we can see which transmitters you might be receiving.
