Indoor aerials | Installing

I MacKay:

Programme 87 carries Keep it Country on the COM7 HD multiplex. To get that you need to have a wideband aerial aimed at the Black Hill transmitter on a bearing of 264 degrees. The transmitter is only 18km away so should give good reception on all 8 multiplexes.

Assuming that your aerial is a wideband type and that your TV is Freeview HD equipped, then you should be getting programme 87 amongst others. If your TV is nopt a Freeview HD type, so merely HD capable, it will not get any of the HD services from Freeview.

If your equipment meets the requirements, then check all the aerial connections. If there are coaxial plugs/sockets then unplug those and refit them. That should clear any corrosion/ovidation from the contacts that is a well known cause of some problems.

Richard:

The owner of this website is not available at present and he is the only one who can do the updates, as has been stated many times on this website.

COMs 7 & 8 are temporary services and will not be increased in power from any of the 30 main transmitters providing them. No other transmitters carry those services either. Sometime around 2022 it is expected that the programmes provides on those multiplexes will be transferred to other multiplexes and it is hoped they will become available on all, or most, transmitters from then.

Neil Hasted:

As StevensOnln1 says, retuning was the wrong thing to do. What you should have done was check all your aerial cables and connections. A poor connection can cause loss of one or more channels. If there are coaxial plug/sockets, unplug them and then refit. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation that is known to cause such problems.

Please check all your aerial connections and cables. If there are coaxial plugs/sockets then unplug those and then refit them. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation that is know to cause problems such as you report.

DO NOT RETUNE.

It is known that the channel usage data on this website is out-of-date as the owner is unavailable and has been for some months now. Only he can make the needed updates happen. Use the Digital UK Coverage Checker to find details of the channels used for the 8 multiplexes available from Mendip.

The Mendip transmitter does not have any reported faults at present (I know that because we use Mendip services ourselves in Trowbridge). The work indicated has been completed yesterday and no changes to TV transmissions were required, so you should not retune. Instead, check all your aerial connections and if there are coaxial plugs/sockets then unplug them and refit. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation that is known to cause the symptoms you describe.

Please bear in mind that we contributors have no knowledge of posters knowledge/experience and the vast majority appear, from the questions asked and language used, to have little or no technical knowledge/experience in the field of TV broadcasting, hence the answer given which is still valid and resolves a vast majority of such issues. No other posters have mentioned any such issues with the Oxford transmitter as yet this month. According to the Digital UK planned engineering works page, at http://www.digitaluk.co.u…rks, there are no works planned nor being done at Oxford.

I have been involved directly woith technical matters concerning manufacture, service and training about TV sets, video recorders, etc since 1960 and retired as a Senior Technical Training Manager for a major TV rental company.

Please give a full post code as requested above the text entry box you used. That will enable us to identify which of the over 1100 transmitters you should be using and hence whether there are any know problems with it at your location.

Retuning was the worst thing you could have done as you have now lost all the settings for the channels you had before.

Freeview 2024?

Willie Bone:

Why address your comments to me? I have not commented on 4G usage as it is poorly available in many areas and especially rural areas in England and Wales. That Scotland are doing something is a positive step forward.

Please provide your full post code, as is requested in the text above the entry box you used. Then we contributors can look at the expected reception conditions at your location.

You should also check all the aerial connections and cables. If there are coaxial plugs/sockets then unplug those and then refit. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation from the contacts, which is a common cause of the type of problems you describe. Retuning is a bad idea when one channel is lost as you are likely to lose others that were perfectly tuned before.

Babs Towner:

You clearly have some aerial feed problems so please check all your aerial cables and connections. If there are coaxial plugs and sockets then unplugh those and refit. That will clear any corrosion/oxidation from the contacts which is a common cause of the problems you describe. DO NOT KEEP RETUNING, all that will do is lose the channels you currently have and will not resolve the loss of one or more channels.

Please provide your full post code, as requested in the text above the entry box you used, so that we contributors can look at the expected reception conditions at your location.
